Learning to Be Without You

Chapter 1

"Mom, Dad. I've made my decision. I'm ready to return and take over the family business." Yvette Sutton shared the news to Liam Sutton and Lily Harper.

On the other end of the line, she could hear their excitement from her decision.

They knew her boyfriend, Zachary Lawson, didn't know her true identity. They asked excitedly, "Will your boyfriend be coming with you? You haven't told him the truth, have you?"

"No, I'll end things with him." At the mention of Zachary, Yvette's tone turned gentle. "I'll finish everything up here in a week."

Yvette chatted with her parents for a while and soon ended the call. Then she headed back to the private room.

The room was bustling with excitement. Conversations momentarily halted as she opened the door, but she pretended not to notice and beelined to Zachary.

He shifted his focus slightly from the conversation he was having to glance at Yvette, who sat quietly next to him. He asked in a relaxed and casual tone, "Sweetheart, why did that call take so long?"

Just as she was about to respond, another voice interrupted. There were no Fianians in the room, yet the person spoke in Fianese, "Zach, when do you and Jasmine plan to get married?"

Hearing this, Yvette's grip on her cup tightened, her fingers turning white.

Meanwhile, Zachary stayed as calm as ever. He looked at her and responded in Fianese, "Her family arranged a date for two weeks from now."

When he spoke, all eyes immediately shifted to Yvette.

One of his friends arched an eyebrow and asked curiously, "So, if you're marrying Jasmine, what does that mean for Yvette? Are you ending things with her?"

Zachary shook his head and replied, "We won't break up."

He swirled the wine in his glass, took a sip, and added, "The marriage is just to satisfy my family's wish. Yve is the only one I truly care about."

The moment he made that comment, the private room filled with laughter as everyone began to exchange teasing jabs. "Zach, when did you start believing in true love? With such a huge difference in status, are you sure she's the one for you?"

He glanced at Yvette, his gaze overflowing with warmth and fondness. He stayed silent, but his loving gaze answered their questions.

Observing how love-struck he was, someone remarked in astonishment, "Looks like he's truly smitten. But tell me, does she really not understand Fianese?"

The question was posed lightly, yet it triggered a wave of laughter from the others. "Yvette's family is having a tough time financially. How could she afford to learn such an obscure language? Rest assured, she definitely doesn't understand it."

Their laughter echoed around her. But no one saw the shift in Yvette as her fingers clenched tightly around the wine glass.

She didn't reveal that she could understand Fianese. After all, she wasn’t exactly from humble beginnings. She was the only daughter of the world's wealthiest man.

After five years of being together, Zachary treated her so well that she could do as she pleased. Yet he had never introduced her to his family.

Initially, she assumed he was wary due to the difference in their social standings, given that the Lawsons were a well-known affluent family in Harville.

Yvette had already resolved to reveal her identity to him. As the sole daughter of the world's wealthiest man, she had chosen to keep her identity a secret and venture out on her own to gain experience.

She didn't want to be coddled and remain under her parents' protection forever.

However, destiny had a harsh surprise in store.

Just three days earlier, she stumbled upon a wedding invitation in his office. The bride was a woman from the Anderson family, and the groom was Zachary!

While he was murmuring endearments to her, he had already agreed to the arranged marriage his family had set up.

As he was whispering sweet nothings to her, he was actually getting ready to wed a woman deemed socially suitable and chosen by his family.

At that moment, she realized there was nothing else that needed to be said. From that point forward, he would marry, and she would take over her family's business. They both had promising futures ahead.

After several drinks, the group was thoroughly enjoying their conversation. As the sky darkened, they concluded their gathering and got ready to go separate ways.

Yvette joined the others as they left the private room.

But after only a few steps, an unfamiliar voice called out to her from behind. "Ms. Sutton!"

Chapter 2

Yvette halted in her tracks. As she turned, she recognized the person who had called out to her. It was a former business partner who had been persistently trying to work with Liam.

She couldn't help but let out a sigh.

She was hesitant to reveal her identity and was contemplating how to handle the situation when one of Zachary's friends looked her over and snickered, "Why are you speaking to her so formally? She's just a nobody. Do you think her entire outfit costs more than 300 dollars? That's laughable!"

A wave of laughter erupted at his words.

They weren't speaking in Fianese, so Yvette understood their jibes perfectly. Yet her expression remained the same.

Zachary, instead of responding verbally, gave his friend a cold, warning glare.

His friend felt small and scolded under Zachary's intense gaze and curbed his mocking behavior. The rest of the group also quieted down after noticing Zachary's glare.

The commotion died down, and no one pursued them. Yvette followed Zachary, and they went home in silence.

When he got home, he removed his coat and hung it on the rack. "Sweetheart, I think you shouldn't come to those meetups with me anymore."

She stayed calm and not let her feelings show on her face. Despite the subtle exclusion from his social circle, she didn't appear affected. She simply asked, "Do you think I'm embarrassing you?"

He chuckled and reached out to tousle her hair, but she swiftly avoided his hand.

Zachary explained helplessly, "What are you talking about? I just don't want you to be treated like that."

"But there's a difference in our social standing. Eventually, we'll have to deal with situations like this. Hasn't your family pushed you toward an arranged marriage?" Yvette asked, searching his features for any sign of guilt.

When Zachary heard the term "arranged marriage", he tensed briefly. But he quickly composed himself and explained, "Yve, the important thing is that you're the one I love. I'll handle the rest of the issues."

If she hadn't been paying close attention, she might not have noticed anything different about him. After finishing his sentence, Zachary headed to the bathroom to freshen up.

As she watched him walk away, she remained silent. Yet a thought crossed her mind. Was his idea of a solution to just follow his family's demands? Was he really going to get married and keep her as a secret lover?

Just then, a notification sounded from Zachary's phone on the bedside table. He had never kept his password a secret from her, so she had no trouble unlocking it.

She quickly looked through his messages and found one from Jasmine.

"Zachary, our families are meeting tomorrow. If you don't spend the night with me, won't our parents discover our fake marriage?

"I know you're in love with your girlfriend. But please, we need to act like a loving couple for the next few days, alright?"

Yvette recognized the underlying motives despite the seemingly modest words.

Initially, Jasmine would use their parents as a reason to spend time together. Then what would happen next? She would continue to use this excuse, inching forward with each step.

However, Yvette was no longer concerned. She had already decided to move on. With this thought in mind, she marked the message as unread and set the phone aside.

Shortly after, Zachary emerged from the bathroom. He casually picked up his phone and looked at his messages.

Then he turned to her with an apologetic look. "Yve, there's an urgent issue at work that I need to attend to. I won't be back tonight. Please take care of yourself and get some rest."

He left in a rush, not pausing to see her reaction. He didn't even notice that Yvette, who usually saw him off at the door, begging him not to go, didn't try to stop him this time.

She simply watched as his retreating figure.

Shortly after Zachary left, her phone buzzed with a message.

"With just a single sentence from me, Zachary rushed to my side. Our families are meeting tomorrow. Once we're officially married, what will you become? Maybe… a hidden lover who must remain in the shadows?”

Jasmine's words were cutting, but Yvette was unphased by them.

She only felt true pain as she realized it was Zachary who gave Jasmine the confidence to act this way. She couldn't believe once believed she could trust on him completely.

Zachary likely didn't realize that even if she hadn't stumbled upon that invitation, she would still find out his scheme to wed Jasmine.

The day after she discovered the invitation, Jasmine had messaged her. Ever since then, Jasmine had been bombarding her with all sorts of suggestive pictures.

There were images of Zachary with Jasmine as she tried on wedding dresses. There were even snapshots of them choosing diamond rings together, and pictures of them touring wedding venues in tandem.

Each picture killed off the love she had for Zachary.

That night, Zachary didn't return. Yvette couldn't have cared less.

The following day, upon waking, she got ready and headed directly to the company to submit her resignation.

She managed to finish all the resignation processes that same day. During her lunch break, she joined her colleagues for a meal.

Upon learning that she was resigning, a coworker playfully said, "I noticed a trend lately with videos suggesting that colleagues who abruptly quit are doing so to return to take over their family's company.

"Yvette, your resignation was so sudden. Are you actually leaving because your family has a fortune waiting for you?"

The colleague made the remark offhandedly, but Yvette nodded softly. "Yes, I'm going to take over my family's company."

For a brief moment, everyone was taken aback. But then they all started laughing, assuming she was joking, and didn't give much thought to her words.

Yvette just smiled without offering any further explanation. Once lunch break was over, she gathered all her belongings into a box and headed straight home.

Zachary was at home when she arrived. Observing her enter with a box, he felt a bit puzzled. "Did you quit your job?"

She nodded and casually went to her room with the box in tow.

He quickly stopped her in her tracks. He asked her with furrowed brows, "Didn't you really like that job? Why did you quit so abruptly?"

Yvette merely looked at him and smiled. "Because there's another job I want to pursue even more."

Chapter 3

Upon hearing Yvette's words, Zachary refrained from asking more questions. Instead, he replied, "If the job is wearing you out, then just quit.

"It pains me to watch you exhaust yourself daily. Yve, you know I can take care of you."

Yvette firmly shook her head, responding slowly, "I'm not anyone's accessory."

Yvette quickly changed the subject. "Why are you back so early today? Weren't you at the office?"

"I've been swamped with work lately and haven't had a chance to spend time with you. So today, I decided to set aside some time for us."

His tense expression softened, and he returned to being the loving boyfriend who always went along with her wishes.

"What do you want to do? Is there a restaurant you want to try? Or do you want to catch a movie? We can do whatever you want."

Before, when Yvette heard these words, she'd be moved and touched by them.

She was well aware that he was the heir to the Lawson Group, with an immense workload to manage daily. Therefore, his willingness to make time for her meant she held a special place in his heart.

Yet, as she gazed at him now, she couldn't shake her doubts. Was he genuinely swamped with work, or was he preoccupied with the wedding preparations?

How did he juggle planning a wedding with Jasmine while constantly assuring Yvette that she was the only one he loved?

Ultimately, she chose not to reveal his deceit. In just a few days, she would vanish from his life without leaving a trace.

She declined his suggestion with a shake of her head, then paused to consider before saying, "How about we do some cleaning? There are plenty of old items in the villa that serve no purpose anymore."

Zachary agreed and helped her with the cleanup. However, once they were done, he noticed that everything she had sorted out were the matching items they had purchased together in the past.

From cups and accessories to clothes and slippers, she discarded them all into the trash without a second thought.

As she continued to throw away more of their matching items, his smile slowly became forced.

When the final item was tossed into the bin, he could no longer conceal the anxiety in his heart. "Yve, did you... discover something?"

"What would I have discovered? Is there something you're keeping from me?" she replied, raising an eyebrow. She redirected the question back to him.

Zachary looked away, avoiding her eyes. After a pause, he remained silent. He took her hand and said, "Yve, no matter what comes, always remember that I love you."

She gave a faint smile and stayed silent.

Once they were done cleaning, Zachary was adamant on taking Yvette out on a date. Worried he might notice something was amiss, she agreed this time.

He took her to dinner and then to a movie, and eventually, they arrived at an auction house. As they were about to enter, a young woman in a Chanel-style suit with flawless makeup elegantly approached them.

A brief expression of discomfort appeared on his face, which Yvette noticed right away. She asked, "Is something bothering you? Did you see someone familiar?"

Then, the young woman paused in front of them and smiled in greeting.

Zachary quickly introduced her, "This is Jasmine, the daughter of a close family friend." After a brief pause, he said, "This is my girlfriend, Yvette."

Noticing the contrasting introductions, Jasmine's smile faltered slightly. However, she quickly forced a smile, extending her hand to Yvette. "I've heard a lot about how beautiful Zachary's girlfriend is. Meeting you today, I can see it's true."

While they were talking, the same group of guys who had insulted her in Fianese the day before approached. They winked at Zachary, out of Yvette's view.

It dawned on him then that this meeting was no accident. His friends had intentionally brought Jasmine along.

A wave of anger rose within him, but he knew that losing his temper would complicate matters further. Reluctantly, he had to swallow his anger.

At the auction, Jasmine found herself seated beside Zachary. Contrary to her bold text messages, in person, she was calm, courteous, and appeared knowledgeable.

Upon discovering Zachary's interest in porcelain, she animatedly discussed the subject with him. Initially hesitant, Zachary slowly began to warm up to her.

When Yvette coughed, it made Zachary remember her presence.

He swiftly removed his coat and placed it over her shoulders, speaking softly, "Are you feeling cold? Does this help? Yve, I understand you're not really into this stuff, but if there's anything you want, feel free to bid on it."

Before Yvette could speak, she overheard the hushed conversations of Zachary's friends behind her.

Despite their efforts to speak quietly, their proximity made it easy for her to catch every word.

"Zach sure knows how to protect Yvette from embarrassing herself. Even if she were curious, what difference would it make? She likely doesn't even know how to lift a bidding paddle."

"Right. This is an upper-class auction. It must be her first time here."

Chapter 4

While they talked, they cast a dismissive look at Yvette. Though they claimed to be murmuring, it seemed they were deliberately speaking loud enough for her to catch every word.

Yvette ignored them. She knew that the next time they met, they would be the ones treating her respectfully and addressing her as "Ms. Sutton".

At that moment, the sale of the previous item ended. The next item was brought onto the stage.

It was a sculpture called "Regal Lion Gargoyle", made from a high-quality gemstone. The craftsmanship was flawless, but what really caught everyone's attention was the host's announcement.

The sculpture was a masterpiece by Philip Thorne, known as the Pioneer of Modern Gemstone Sculpture.

When Jasmine heard Philip's name, her eyes brightened. She immediately raised her paddle and excitedly turned to Zachary. "Zachary, this has incredible collectible value!

"Mrs. Lawson Senior's birthday is the day after tomorrow. This would be the perfect gift for her!"

When Yvette heard Philip's name, she instinctively glanced at the sculpture on stage. However, after a quick look, she turned her eyes elsewhere.

Her voice, as serene as a calm lake, hit Jasmine's excitement like a cold shock. "That's fake"

Jasmine stared at her incredulously. She nearly blurted out, "What could someone like you from the countryside possibly know?"

But when she noticed Zachary seated next to her, she swallowed her irritation and asked with a smile, "How can you tell, Ms. Sutton?"

"Because the young lady of the Sutton family gifted the original to her grandmother."

There was only one like it in existence, and it was at her house. So the one being displayed was definitely a counterfeit.

She intended to help Jasmine not get scam. But as soon as the words were spoken, Jasmine erupted into laughter.

Even Zachary's friends behind them joined in, mocking her, "Yvette, stop acting like you know things you clearly don't. It's humiliating."

"Right, the young lady of the Sutton family gifted the original to her grandmother? Did you hide under the bed to witness it firsthand?

"Just because you have the same last name, do you think you're connected to Ms. Sutton or something?"

The jeers intensified until Zachary silenced them with a steely look.

Facing Yvette, he grasped her hand and said, "Yve, I realize you've been delving into appraisal books recently, but real expertise in this area isn't something books alone can teach.

"Jasmine, on the other hand, has been going to auctions since young and has extensively studied gemstone sculpture. It's only natural that she knows more than you."

His words weren't explicitly harsh, but they carried the implication that he thought she was speaking without knowledge.

Yvette chuckled quietly and didn't say more. Ultimately, Jasmine paid a whopping 100 million to acquire that gemstone sculpture at an inflated price.

As Jasmine swiped her card, Yvette grinned. She couldn't help but wonder how Maria Stone, Zachary's grandmother, would react upon discovering that Jasmine had spent 100 million on a counterfeit gemstone sculpture as a gift for her.

She didn't intervene, nor did she mind. She stood up and headed to the restroom.

As she finished washing her hands, a familiar voice spoke from behind her, "Yvette, I thought I was clear. How dare you linger around so shamelessly? Do you really want to be a homewrecker that much?"

Jasmine's voice was piercing and high-pitched, a stark contrast to the graceful and refined woman she had been just moments earlier.

Yvette lifted her eyes slightly, turned to face her, and said, "Ms. Anderson, let's be clear. I've been with him for five years. The term 'homewrecker' doesn't apply to me."

After saying that, Yvette was ready to walk away, but Jasmine blocked her path.

With a sneer, she continued to taunt her. "Five years together and he still hasn't proposed? Haven't you ever questioned the reason? I'm the Jasmine Anderson, and he's the heir to Lawson Group. We fit together perfectly!

"But you? Your father gambles, and your mother is ill. With such a pathetic background and nothing to offer. What makes you deserving of him?"

Yvette stopped in her tracks. Her family background she concocted was purely her own creation, and she never expected Zachary to share it with Jasmine. A bitter laugh escaped her lips.

If that background were true, then wasn't it Zachary, the one who claimed to love only her, who had given Jasmine the confidence to treat her in such a way?

"I'm truly not worthy," she admitted, feeling a sharp pang in her heart.

Looking back at Jasmine, the heaviness in her chest lifted. "You both are perfect for each other. I wish you all the happiness."

With those words, she turned and walked away. She hadn't gone far when her phone rang. It was Lily.

Lily said, "Yvette, come back quickly! The whole family is waiting for you, and we have heaps of gifts ready for you!

"Your dad and I purchased a villa for you abroad. Your aunt got you a diamond tiara. It's rumored to have been worn by Queen Engria. And your uncle has a garage filled with luxury cars ready for you!"

As Lily continued listing all the presents her family had arranged for her homecoming, Yvette looked on with a sense of resignation. "Mom, I'm returning to take over the company, not ruin it."

As soon as she said that, a voice pipped up behind her, "Taking over the company, you say?"

Chapter 5

Yvette's stride slowed. She ended the call, suppressing an inward sigh.

She mused to herself, "Why do people always have to sneak up and speak from behind me?"

Turning around, she found Zachary looking unimpressed. After a brief pause, she said, "It was nothing. Some old colleagues were curious about my plans after quitting, so I joked that I was going home to take over my family's company."

Zachary frowned, realizing she wasn't the type to joke around. A subtle uneasiness settled in him. Just as he was about to say something, Yvette had moved several steps ahead.

She turned and called, "Aren't you coming? There are still a few jewelry collections to see."

Assuming she was interested in purchasing some jewelry, Zachary nodded and followed her.

When Zachary returned to the auction hall, he placed high bids to acquire all the remaining jewelry collections. Once they were carefully packaged, he gave them to Yvette.

Yvette glanced at the boxes she was holding and quietly said, "I don't usually wear this kind of jewelry."

Zachary chuckled and gently tousled her hair. "You'll grow accustomed to it eventually. Don't fret about the price. I'll keep buying you diamonds for the rest of your life."

She opened her mouth to speak, but ultimately kept her thoughts to herself. It wasn't that she lacked priceless jewelry. Every piece in her collection was worth hundreds of millions.

As the auction concluded, the attendees started to leave one by one. Zachary, Yvette, and their group also left shortly thereafter.

Each person had arrived in their own vehicle, so they could easily leave on their own.

Just as Zachary and Yvette were getting into their cars, Jasmine tapped on the passenger side window.

The window slid down gradually, exposing Jasmine's shy expression. She spoke flirtatiously, gone was the arrogance she'd displayed to Yvette in the toilet, "Zachary, my car isn't working. Would you mind giving me a ride home?"

Zachary hesitated, ready to refuse. But she quickly added, "Your parents asked you to look out for me. You remember that, right?"

Zachary's face clouded a bit as if a thought crossed his mind. Eventually, he gave in.

Jasmine's smile widened when Zachary agreed. She pressed on, addressing Yvette. "I get carsick if I sit in the back. What should I do?"

Zachary glanced at Yvette. Before he could utter a word, Yvette stepped out of the car and moved seamlessly to the back seat.

Her actions were so swift and graceful that Zachary had no time to respond before she was comfortably seated in the back. The words he intended to say remained in his throat, making him feel uneasy.

He paused, tempted to mention that it was only a seat and not worth the fuss. However, when he looked in the rearview mirror at the back seat, he saw she had already shut her eyes. It seemed that she was ready to rest without a care.

Jasmine quickly got into the car. As she shut the door and noticed Yvette resting with her eyes closed in the back seat, a triumphant smirk appeared on her lips.

"Yvette, even if he still has feelings for you now, everything I desire will eventually be mine. Winning his heart is just a matter of time!" With this thought, her mood brightened.

She spoke softly and gently, her eyes appearing shy and modest as she glanced at Zachary, "Is Ms. Sutton feeling tired? Let her rest for a bit."

Perhaps sensing that Yvette was different from usual, Zachary kept his conversation with Jasmine to a minimum. He simply nodded and quietly started the car.

Yvette had truly fallen asleep. When she awoke, the car was parked in the Lawson garage, and Jasmine had already left the vehicle.

Zachary gently touched her face. "You're awake? You were sleeping so deeply that I couldn't bring myself to disturb you."

Still feeling a bit groggy, she nodded, opened the door, and stepped out of the car. Without waiting for Zachary, she headed toward the villa.

When Zachary finally stepped out of the car, she was already at the door.

He quickly followed her and stopped her in her tracks. "Are you upset? Jasmine is truly just the daughter of a family friend. Please don't be bothered by it."

She responded with a quiet hum.

Believing she was still annoyed, Zachary gently took her hand. In a soft, pleading tone, he said, "She really is just a family friend's daughter. You know you're the only one I love, sweetheart."

After he finished speaking, he noticed the fragrance of roses surrounding her. It dawned on him that it had been some time since he'd been this near to Yvette. Swallowing, he bent down, aiming to kiss her, but she pushed him away.

Seeing his startled expression, Yvette quickly turned and beelined to her room.

"I'm on my period and not feeling well. I'm going to my room to rest." With that, she securely locked the door, leaving no opportunity for Zachary to enter.

The following morning, while Yvette and Zachary were enjoying breakfast in the dining room and her phone began to ring.

It was a reminder she had set earlier, accompanied by the note. "Day to meet the parents."

Zachary noticed those words as well.

Previously, she intended to reveal her true identity to him. She suggested he went with her to meet her parents, to which he agreed.

They exchanged a look. Yvette was contemplating how to call off the meeting. Suddenly, Zachary's phone rang. The call was from Jasmine.

Whatever was discussed on the other end wasn't known, but his expression shifted slightly. When he ended the call, he looked apologetic as he said, "Yve, something urgent has come up. Can I meet your parents another time?"

Chapter 6

Zachary thought Yvette would blow a fuse and cause a scene.

But she simply nodded calmly and said, "That's fine. I have my own errands to run today as well."

Shortly after Zachary left, Yvette also headed out. She went to the mall, selecting a gift for each of her friends she planned to meet later.

When they met at the agreed spot and opened the gifts, they gasped in surprise to find each box held a brand-new luxury item.

"Yvette, where did you find these knock offs? They look just like the real thing!"

Watching them unable to tear themselves away from the items, she chuckled, "They're all authentic."

After explaining, and noticing their incredulous expressions, she revealed her true identity. "Actually, the story I told you about my dad being a gambler and my mom being seriously ill was made up.

"In reality, I am Yvette Sutton, the sole daughter of the wealthiest man, Liam Sutton. I'm saying farewell because I'm going back home to take over the family business."

Upon hearing the news, the group's expression went from stun and shock to pure joy.

They kept exclaiming that a true heir had been among them the entire time. They were so loud that the whole restaurant could hear them.

Once they calmed down, one of her friends suddenly thought of Zachary and asked, "What about Zachary? Is he aware of who you truly are?"

At the mention of Zachary, Yvette's smile wavered slightly. "He's going to marry someone else."

"That can't be true!" Her friends were stunned by this news. "To us, he's a rare romantic within the wealthy elite."

"Exactly! Three years ago, when you mentioned your love for epiphyllums, he went all out!. He purchased them from around the world just to see you happy.

"Two years ago, when you were down with a flu, he abandoned a 100 million dollar deal and flew back immediately to care for you. He even stayed up all night without resting.

"A year ago, during that car accident. A truck that lost control was heading right for you, but he swerved the car to shield you. You came out unscathed, but he ended up with three broken ribs, spending three months in the hospital and nearly not recovering.

"And now that he's getting married, there's no way the bride isn't you!"

As Yvette listened to her friends reminisce about the past, she felt a wave of emotion hit her.

Zachary had truly loved her so much back then that he was willing to risk his life for her. But now...

She shook her head and gave a gentle smile. "He does care for me, but his family believes my social standing isn't suitable for him and is pushing him into marriage.

"Before I had the chance to reveal my true identity, he had already sent out wedding invitations. From what he has mentioned, it seems he wants me to be his mistress after the marriage."

Her friends erupted with fury as soon as they heard the news.

"What? A mistress?"

"Suggesting that the young lady of the Sutton family to become a mistress, has the Lawson family lost their minds?"

"Just wait, one day he'll be on his knees pleading for your return!"

"Exactly! When he realizes you've vanished without a trace, and his family discovers who you truly are, won't they regret?"

At that moment, Zachary and Jasmine entered through the door, having overheard the conversation and looking displeased.

"What real identity?"

One of Yvette's friends, brimming with indignation, was about to say something when Yvette stopped her. She faced Zachary and Jasmine, her gaze frosty. "Why are you here?"

Zachary felt a pang of guilt at her inquiry, his gaze shifting away. "The Lawson family and the Anderson family have a collaboration project, so we got together to talk about it."

Upon hearing his response, Yvette chuckled. Naturally, she was aware of their "collaboration". After all, it was a marriage partnership.

Since the purpose of their meeting was to discuss the wedding, Zachary and Jasmine opted not to sit with them.

Instead, they chose a nearby table, close enough for Yvette to clearly observe their loving interactions.

Like how Zachary cut her steak for her to how she shared her favorite dishes with him. He even handed her a tissue that Jasmine used to wipe a smudge from the corner of his mouth.

They continued exchanging these gestures without a care.

While Yvette's friends were seething with anger at the sight, she remained as composed as ever.
