Done Being His Shadow
Chapter 1
Emily stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window. Her fingers hovered over the phone screen for three seconds before she finally called a number she hadn't called in three years.
"Van… Vanessa?" Paul Winter's shocked voice sounded through the phone. "Am I dreaming?"
"I'm coming back." Emily's voice was soft, though it seemed to shatter the silence.
"Are you serious?" The coffee mug slipped out of Paul's hands, shattering onto the floor. His voice trembled in excitement.
"That's amazing! Do you know how badly Victor has suppressed our law firm all these years? After you retired, he stole 20 prominent criminal cases from us! It's been going on for the past three years, and we can barely catch our breath!
"These years, so many people are queueing up, waiting for you to take their cases. If news of your return to the industry gets out, the entire legal circle will be trembling!"
Emily looked up and saw her reflection in the glass. Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she was dressed in beige casual clothes. There were still some greasy stains left on her apron from preparing soup earlier that night.
With the way Emily looked now, no one would have expected that she was the famous "Queen of the Courtroom", who used to cause her rivals to break down in court.
"Oh, right. Over the past few years, did Victor find out who you are? He—"
"He doesn't need to know anything. I've decided to divorce him," Emily interrupted Paul. "The next time we meet will be at court."
After ending the call, Emily was about to return to her room when her phone suddenly buzzed. It was a message from Victor.
"I had too much to drink with my clients. Pick me up."
Emily stared at Victor's message for a long time. For the past three years of their marriage, every time he spoke to her, it was as if he was a superior giving orders to his subordinate.
Finally, Emily arrived at a VIP private room at a nightclub. As soon as she was about to open the door, she heard a chorus of laughter inside.
"Victor, you've won a few times in a row. No wonder you're known as the 'Undefeated Legend'! Is there anyone in this legal world you can't defeat? From what I see, everyone else is no match for you."
"That's not true. Last time, there used to be someone called Vanessa who could stand her ground against him," someone said. "It's a shame she suddenly retired three years ago and disappeared without a trace.
"She most likely got married. It's been three years, so she probably already has a kid or two now. She won't be coming back."
Another man chuckled. "That's not impossible. Look, didn't Victor marry three years ago? Let's not even talk about him having children.
"He stays at the law firm all day and refuses to go home. But now that we're talking about this, it's been three years. Are you still allergic to Emily?"
"Why bother asking that? Victor hates how gentle and obedient Emily is as a wife. Back then, if she hadn't taken advantage of him being drunk and slept with him, he never would've married her.
"Victor admires strong, independent women like Amelia Foster, who can be his equal. So many years have passed, yet he still can't forget her."
Upon hearing the name "Amelia Foster", Emily's gaze darkened.
She opened the door. The private room fell into pin-drop silence as everyone exchanged glances.
But Emily ignored them. She swept a glance across the men before fixing her gaze on Victor, who was already tipsy. He sat on the couch with his eyes shut, resting. The dim lights in the private room cast shadows across his handsome face.
Emily walked over and reached out to help Victor up. He draped his arm over her shoulder, causing her to stumble under his sudden weight.
A sense of familiarity washed over Emily as Victor fell on top of her, his breath reeking of alcohol. For a moment, she was in a daze.
The last time Victor was this close to her was on that ridiculous night three years ago.
As soon as she shoved him into the backseat of her car, he suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his embrace.
Immediately, Emily felt the warmth of his lips on hers, leaving her stunned. Aside from the accident that night, Victor never kissed her again throughout the past three years of marriag—until now.
Suddenly, Emily heard Victor mumble a name. "Amelia…"
So, he mistook her for someone else.
Emily's heart ached as she gazed intensely at the man before her. "Do you really like her that much?"
Victor did not respond. He only gripped the back of her head harder and kissed her fiercely. His fingers were tangled in her hair as if he wanted her to become a part of him.
Victor's warm breath brushed across Emily's face. Behind her was the closed car door, so there was no way for her to escape. She could only close her eyes and let him kiss her.
Once Victor pulled away, he remained tipsy as he whispered against her lips, "Don't leave me."
Emily closed her eyes slowly. After some time, she took out a divorce agreement from her document folder and handed it to him.
"If you don't want me to leave, sign this agreement."
Victor fixed a drunken, hazy gaze on Emily. She knew very well who he saw as he looked at her. But in the end, he still signed the agreement.
"Victor, once the one-month cooling-off period is over, we can get the divorce certificate. By then, we'll be free of each other."
Emily chuckled self-mockingly to herself. She looked at the signed divorce agreement calmly in her hand. A whirlwind of thoughts surged through her mind.
As the moonlight streamed through the car window, she suddenly remembered her first encounter with Victor.
The first time Emily met Victor was during an interstate case. Back then, she had won a major case, and the defendant had lost miserably.
As soon as she walked out of the courtroom, the defendant rushed toward her in a frenzy and gripped her throat hard.
While Emily was suffocating, someone grabbed the defendant's wrist so hard that she thought it had snapped.
"Trying to attack someone in front of the courthouse, eh? Do you want more charges held against you?"
She heard a man's cool, sharp voice.
Emily looked up and met his intense gaze. Her heart fluttered at that moment.
Later, Emily found out that the man who defended her was Victor Smith, a rival she never met before in court.
From that day onward, Emily often headed to Hillside for work trips. She had seen the way Victor worked in court, always leaving his opponents at a loss for words. She also watched him smoking while standing in front of a floor-to-ceiling window.
Emily even intentionally dropped by the bars Victor frequented for his social events. Not once did he recognize her.
Until that night, when she ran into him while he was drunk. He grabbed her wrist and asked hoarsely, "Why did you have to leave?"
Back then, Emily didn't understand what Victor meant. Before she could even think about it, he was already kissing her hard.
That night, they slept together.
The next morning, Victor stared at the bloodstain on the bedsheet. He remained silent for a long time before saying, "I'll take responsibility. Let's get married."
Emily nodded after a moment's hesitation. She even resigned from her job right away and hid her identity as Vanessa Green so she could marry him.
Even after they were married, Victor remained as aloof as before. He rarely went home and never shared a bed with Emily again.
Back then, Emily assumed that Victor was a naturally aloof man. She thought she could eventually melt his heart with her gentleness.
Until one random day, Emily found a picture of Amelia in his study. In the photo, the latter wore a white dress and was standing on the edge of a bridge in Dambridge. Her smile was so bright that it hurt to even look at her.
The words scribbled on the back of the photo pierced Emily's heart.
"If I can't have you, it doesn't matter who I marry."
Later, Emily found out that Amelia was Victor's first love, and the latter was a famous pianist.
After graduation, Amelia chose to study abroad. That was why she broke up with Victor.
So many years had passed, yet Victor never forgot about her. That night, Victor got completely wasted because he found out Amelia had a new lover overseas.
During their three years of marriage, Emily saw Victor scowl at the birthday cake she personally made for him. She even watched him toss the dinner she had spent so much time preparing into the rubbish bin.
When Victor found out that Amelia was returning to the country, he completely lost his composure and hurried off to the airport to pick her up. In the process, he dumped Emily, who was having her period, by the highway.
At that moment, Emily had completely given up. She wasn't that pathetic to the point she would continue pursuing a man who never had her in his heart.
Not to mention, Victor was already in love with Amelia.
Since that was how things were, why shouldn't Emily become a renowned lawyer once again? She didn't mind stepping aside so Victor and Amelia could be together again.
After shoving the divorce agreement into her bag, Emily drove home. Once she had settled Victor in his room, she began packing her luggage overnight.
The next morning, Victor woke up with a hangover. The first thing he saw were boxes scattered all over the floor. He scowled before asking coldly, "What are you doing?"
Chapter 2
Emily paused halfway through folding her clothes. After a moment, she continued with the task on hand.
"Just putting away these clothes."
After getting married, Victor often saw Emily folding clothes. Thinking that she was doing house chores again, he didn't think much of it. He got out of bed to wash up.
Once she finished putting away the remaining clothes, she put the box back in its original place.
Suddenly, Emily heard the doorbell ring. She had no idea who was at the door so early.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Amelia standing outside, smiling gently. She wore a white dress, and she looked elegant.
"Oh… You must be Victor's wife, right? Nice to meet you. I'm his old friend, Amelia Foster. May I know if he's home?"
Emily stared at Amelia for a moment before nodding. She stepped aside for Amelia to enter.
Victor happened to walk out of the bathroom at the same time. His expression flickered at the sight of Amelia.
Clearly, his gaze was filled with joy, yet his voice sounded cool as usual. "What brings you here?"
Amelia looked down and took a document from her bag. "Victor, you know why I'm back here. I've made up my mind to file for a divorce, but my case is slightly tricky to handle. No lawyer wants to take my case. Could you help me?"
Before Amelia even finished speaking, Victor was already reaching for the file. "Sure thing."
With that, he gave a call to the partner at his law firm. He requested to transfer all the cases he was working on to other lawyers. He was determined to focus solely on Amelia's divorce case.
Victor's partner was extremely shocked. "Victor, our law firm specializes in criminal cases. Why… Why did you suddenly take on a divorce case?
"Based on what you described, your client can't provide any compelling evidence to prove that her relationship with her husband has completely fallen apart. The court will most likely reject the request for divorce.
"I suggest you ask your client to contact a civil attorney. Civil attorneys specialize in this line of work, so they're more suited to handle divorce cases.
"I also have something unpleasant to add on. There's no need to ruin your perfect record for a case you'd most likely lose. That will lower your value as a lawyer."
Although the partner sounded like he was giving sound advice to Victor, it was clear that he valued success and reputation.
The call was on speaker the entire time so Amelia could understand the situation. After hearing the conversation, she was slightly panicked. "Let's forget about it. I'll get another lawyer—"
Before Amelia even finished speaking, Victor declared decisively, "No need. I'll be fully responsible for this case. Just focus on your tour, and don't overthink things."
Emily, who was watering the plants on the balcony, had witnessed everything and heard the entire conversation. From her experience in taking on more than a thousand divorce cases, Amelia had an 80% chance of losing her lawsuit.
For one, Victor never took on divorce cases, so he had zero experience. No matter how talented he was, he still had to have a good understanding of the related law. That would take up a lot of his time.
Moreover, it was an international divorce case involving the complicated laws of many states in Amozia.
Regardless of how brilliant Victor was, it would be extremely challenging to win the case. In the past, the composed and pragmatic him would never have taken on such a tough case that was bound to lose.
Victor probably agreed so quickly because the one seeking a divorce was Amelia. He still couldn't let go of her, his first love.
Emily looked away.
Throughout the next week, Victor really did hand off all his cases. He spent all his time in his study at home, going through legislations and case files. He never even took a break.
As for Amelia, she dropped by every day with the excuse that she wanted to check on the case's progress.
Since Victor understood Amelia's preferences well, he often prepared coffee for her before she even arrived. When she brought flowers to thank him for his hard work, he took the time to arrange them in a vase and water them.
He even changed the light in his study the same night, after Amelia casually mentioned how dim it was.
In the past, Victor never cared whether Emily liked tea or coffee. He also never paid attention to the flowers planted in the garden, whether the room lights were working, or if the drains at home were clogged up.
Only when Amelia was around did he seem to shed his untouchable demeanor as a talented lawyer and become more approachable.
In fact, Emily had never seen that side of Victor before. He seemed so familiar, yet so unrecognizable.
She chuckled self-mockingly but did not say a word. She quietly got rid of the clutter she had no intention of bringing along with her.
After tossing the last box of clothes, Emily returned home, where she heard Victor talking on the phone.
"Victor, I'm really not an expert at divorce cases. Why don't you ask your old rival, Vanessa Green? She has quite the experience and probably took on thousands, or at least hundreds of divorce cases.
"She won all of those cases too. She also has experience with international divorce cases. If you seek her out, I'm sure she'll give you some effective suggestions."
After hearing his friend's suggestion, Victor pondered over it for a long time.
Perhaps he was too eager to help Amelia divorce successfully, he actually hired someone to look into ways to contact Vanessa.
Once Victor got the number, he made the call immediately.
Chapter 3
Within the next second, Emily's phone buzzed in her pocket. She took it out and saw "Honey" on the screen. It was Victor calling her.
However, she did not answer. The calling tone echoed through the speaker repeatedly, filling the living room.
Victor called eight times, but no one answered the call. He scowled slightly at the realization.
Amelia handed him some coffee and comforted him gently. "Vanessa might be busy, so she didn't answer. Let's wait a while and call her later."
Victor nodded. As he ended the call, he accidentally spilled the coffee over the documents. There was no more tissue on the table. Amelia was about to head out to get some more, but he called out to Emily to bring him a new packet.
Emily entered the study with a packet of tissue. She noticed the eight call records on his phone. It was clearly her number, yet there was no contact name.
Now, Emily knew that Victor didn't even bother to save her number. No wonder he never realized that the person he needed the most was in the house.
Emily chuckled. She got up and entered the kitchen to prepare a simple breakfast for herself. As she brought a plate of sandwiches out, she realized that Victor was trying to contact her again. Once again, she did not answer.
By then, Victor's patience had worn thin. He got to his feet and entered the study. "She must have changed her number. I'll get someone to send me the contact details of Liberty Legal in Glenside."
Upon hearing Victor's decision, Emily's gaze froze. If he did contact her former law firm, based on their tendency to gossip, they would spill everything about her.
Right now, Emily didn't want Victor to know all that about her. She turned to Amelia and said, "Ms. Foster, I happen to know a little about the problem you guys are facing.
"If you wish to file for a divorce in Matornia, Amozia, the plaintiff has to provide…" Emily briefly explained how the laws worked in Matornia.
Since Amelia didn't quite understand it, she quickly called Victor over. Emily explained everything again. Although he understood what she said, there was a flicker of doubt in his eyes.
"How do you know all this?"
Emily took a sip of milk before saying nonchalantly, "I graduated from the law school at Skybridge College.
"Five years ago, I read about a divorce case that is quite similar to Ms. Foster's. Back then, the plaintiff's appeal was also dismissed due to lack of evidence. The lawyer used certain provisions in international private law…"
Emily had personally handled the case. Hence, she spoke confidently as she analyzed the case with ease.
Seeing how Emily had spoken so effortlessly, Victor realized for the first time that she seemed very different from the dutiful wife he had pictured in his mind.
At that moment, his heart fluttered. For the first time, he thought of asking everything about her past.
But now wasn't the time to get to know Emily. Time was of the essence. Instead, Victor took Emily's suggestion and continued preparing his material for the prosecution.
Now that the issue was resolved, Emily didn't interfere any longer. She started going through the recent cases over the past few years. She wanted to familiarize herself with the updated laws so she could prepare for her return to practice.
As the days passed, Emily was busy improving her skills. She didn't even pay attention to anything happening around her.
Only when Victor sought her out did she find out that Amelia's divorce had been successful. Amelia even invited her to her solo piano recital to thank her for her help.
"There's no need to thank me. It was no trouble at all." Emily casually refused the invitation and continued reading her book.
Victor walked to her side, intending to talk her into attending Amelia's solo piano recital. However, he accidentally saw "Vanessa Green" scribbled on the side of the book she was reading.
Victor was immediately taken aback. "You… You like Vanessa?"
Emily followed Victor's gaze and realized that he had noticed her habit of marking her own books. She instinctively blocked the mark before nodding in agreement. "Yes."
In the legal world, many did look up to her.
Afraid that Victor would continue asking questions, she changed the subject. "I'd like to go out and clear my head. What time is the solo piano recital? I'll get changed so we can leave."
It was a good thing that Victor no longer seemed interested in asking Emily anymore questions. He merely nodded and left the room to wait for her in the car.
Once they arrived, Amelia sent an assistant to lead them to the VIP zone. "Mr. Smith, we meet again. All these years, whenever and wherever Ms. Foster has a concert, you always show up to support her.
"Every time, you'd bring a bouquet of flowers for her, and they're her favorite tulips. In the past, I always thought you were single. You're actually married! Your wife looks so gentle and stunning. You're really a lucky man!"
Emily listened to the assistant in silence. Now, she found out that Victor's trips abroad weren't work-related. He was there to watch Amelia's performances.
She bent her head as she recalled herself meticulously packing his luggage for him the night before his flights, every time. She prepared changes of clothes for him too. She was also worried that he wouldn't be used to the food overseas, so she packed lots of snacks.
Emily always looked forward to Victor returning from his trips abroad. She prayed for his work to go smoothly and that he would always be safe.
But she never realized that all that while, Amelia was the only woman in his heart.
Emily chuckled, mocking her own foolishness.
But it was good that Victor could soon openly pursue the woman he loved. As for Emily, she would be free again.
Chapter 4
Aside from Emily and Victor, another married couple with their child was present in the VIP room as well.
After the recital began, everyone became lost in the lovely, crisp notes of the music. Even the five-year-old child listened earnestly.
Once half of the program was over, there was a 20-minute intermission. The child let loose and began jumping around the box.
She sounded excited as she asked, "This lady's so good. She played such a difficult tune so well. How did she do it? Mom, tell me a story about this lady."
Since the mother didn't know Amelia well, she went on Wikipedia and began reading aloud.
Emily got up to head to the washroom. By the time she returned, she heard Victor saying, "The information on Wikipedia isn't accurate at all.
"She came from a family of musicians. She started learning piano at the age of two. Since young, she always took first place in competitions and could move to the next level without needing to take any exams.
"She's a once-in-a-lifetime prodigy at Freymont College's music school. Before she even graduated, a renowned Bastrian pianist took her in as his final protege."
Although Victor sounded calm and nonchalant, his voice was filled with unmistakable admiration.
The child's eyes lit up at his story. She tugged at his hand and asked, "Sir, how do you know so much about this lady? Do you love her?"
Victor's expression froze slightly at the child's question, and he did not continue his story.
Even the child's mother realized something was amiss. She quickly carried her daughter away while telling her off. "Katie, don't talk nonsense. This man's already married."
As Emily listened to the entire conversation in silence, she unconsciously clenched her fists. So what if Victor was married? If he liked Amelia, so be it. There was no other way around it.
Victor never told any lies. His silence at Katie's question was already an answer.
Once the second half of the recital was over, Amelia informed them that she had already made a reservation at a restaurant. She explained that she wanted to thank Victor and Amelia for their help.
As they arrived at the entrance, Victor and Amelia ran into a former classmate. Since they didn't want to keep Emily waiting, they asked the restaurant owner to take her to the private room first.
The boss was very friendly and began chatting warmly with Emily. "You must be Mr. Smith and Ms. Foster's friend, right?
"They used to be our frequent customers at my restaurant. Don't be fooled by Mr. Smith's aloof appearance. He's very gentle with Ms. Foster.
"Since Ms. Foster enjoys having crabs, he would remove the shells for her himself. Whenever she got drunk, she would insist on wanting a piggyback ride. He would carry her on his back and walk down the mountain for four hours.
"After Ms. Foster went abroad, only Mr. Smith came here. He would order her favorite dishes and sit there until our restaurant closed for the day. Now that Mr. Foster has returned, they'll probably get married very soon."
Emily forced herself to smile as she said stiffly, "Perhaps."
Very quickly, Amelia and Victor had returned. As usual, he ordered all her favorite dishes before handing the menu to the waiter.
Once the dishes were served, Victor wore a pair of gloves and began peeling the shells off the crabs. Out of habit, he wanted to place the crab meat in front of Amelia, who was taken aback for a moment. She glanced at Emily before speaking earnestly.
"It's Emily's first time at this restaurant. You should let her try the crab first."
Victor's hand froze midair. Then, he turned to hand it to Emily.
Throughout their entire marriage, that was the first time he did anything for her, and it was because of Amelia.
Emily stared at the plate of peeled crab meat and said calmly, "I'm allergic to seafood, so I can't have crab."
Victor frowned. "You're allergic to seafood? But why do you always prepare fish and prawns for our meals?"
"Because you liked it," Emily said as the private room fell into silence. As for what she liked, Victor never cared about that before.
Seeing how things were getting tense, Amelia quickly changed the topic to smooth things over. Victor also joined in, and they started chatting away, becoming lost in their own world.
Still, Emily did not utter a word. She remained invisible as she quietly ate her dinner.
As the waiter came over to serve them soup, two kids chasing each other dashed over and knocked down the serving cart.
A large bowl of steaming soup splashed onto Amelia and Emily. At that critical moment, Victor instinctively drew Amelia into his arms.
"Oh!" Emily was the only one scalded all over by the soup. Steam wafted off her skin, and she began to burn bright red. Large yellow blisters started forming, looking rather terrifying.
A burning pain overwhelmed Emily, causing tears to stream down her face. Victor's eyes narrowed in shock. He was about to check on her condition when he heard Amelia squeal behind him.
He immediately turned back and asked in concern, "What happened?"
Amelia's eyes had turned red. "The hot soup scalded my fingertips. It really hurts."
Victor's expression shifted. He immediately lifted her into his arms and said to Emily, "You should find your way to the hospital on your own.
"Amelia needs her hands to play the piano. She can't afford to be injured at all."
Without waiting for Emily's response, Victor hurriedly left with Amelia in his arms.
Emily watched Victor leave. She couldn't help but tear up.
She headed to the hospital with her body covered in blisters to get treatment.
After treatment, Emily was hospitalized for a few days. When the nurses came to make their rounds, they would gossip about the happenings in the hospital from time to time.
"I heard there's a pianist staying in the VIP hospital room. One of her fingertips got scalded, and her boyfriend was really upset about it.
"He invited many experts for consultation, and he's always there whenever the nurses change her bandage. He also goes with her for her follow-up visits. He even feeds her food and water himself. He's so worried that any injury might ruin her career."
"Several times, while I was on night shift, I saw him sitting by the hospital bed while holding his girlfriend's hands. He would gently kiss the back of her hand.
"It's hard for anyone to look away from his affectionate gaze. I heard he's a brilliant lawyer. Look at how handsome he is. He's the perfect match for the gorgeous and gentle pianist."
Emily listened to their gossip in silence. By then, she was already numb to everything, so she barely reacted.
That was because she would be leaving Victor soon. She had already moved on from him.
It didn't matter how much Victor loved Amelia—that had nothing to do with Emily anymore.
Chapter 5
Three days later, Emily was discharged from the hospital. She was ready to go home.
For the first time ever, Victor waited for her at the entrance. He even took the initiative to take her luggage for her.
"It's a holiday today. Since I don't have to work, I'll take you out shopping."
Emily was stunned for a moment. Over their years of marriage, he never took the initiative to take her out on a date.
Even if Emily already planned out the entire date, applied exquisite makeup, and chose a restaurant that suited his preferences, Victor would still claim that he was too busy with work to turn her down.
Emily had no idea why Victor suddenly decided to take her shopping. Was it just on a whim? Or did he feel bad for ditching her at the restaurant, so he wanted to make it up to her?
Would someone like Victor even feel guilty?
He still hadn't realized the shift in her mood. After driving her to a mall, he led her into a jewelry store. He selected several diamond necklaces and asked the store assistant to bring them out. He asked Emily to try them on.
The store assistant was all smiles as she brought out the necklaces. She personally helped Emily put them on and was full of praise.
"Sir, you have excellent taste. Ocean's Heart is our shop's best collection, and they look perfect on this beautiful lady. It really suits her.
"Madam, you're really lucky to have a husband who dotes on you so much. He even personally selected all these for you. You two must be really happy together."
Despite the store assistant's compliments, Victor remained as aloof as ever.
Emily stared down at the necklace around her neck. In the past, she would have been over the moon to receive such gifts. But now, she felt it was unnecessary for Victor to buy these for her.
"You don't have to buy these for me. I don't like jewelry."
But Victor didn't seem to have heard her. After deciding on one of the necklaces, he immediately paid for it by card. Once the store assistant finished wrapping it up, she handed it to him.
Finally, Victor turned back to Emily and said indifferently, "I know you don't like these, but it's Amelia's birthday today. It's my present for her. I don't want anything to go wrong, so I thought I'd ask you to help me try them on."
Emily's heart lurched violently at his words. Victor hadn't purposely taken her shopping today out of guilt. He just wanted to buy the perfect present for Amelia.
From the start, Emily was just a tool.
Later, Victor explained that Amelia also invited her to her birthday party. He then took Emily to a club.
As soon as they opened the door to a private room, they spotted Amelia right away. A subtle delight flashed across Victor's face. He handed her the present and wished her a happy birthday.
Amelia's close friends gathered around as they fought to rip open the present. As their gazes landed on the luxurious, sparkling diamond necklace, the young women shrieked in excitement.
"He gave you an expensive diamond necklace just like that. No hesitation at all. Victor, you really spoil her too much! No wonder you two are our top power couple on Freymont College's couple list!"
Everyone started complimenting Victor and Amelia. Many former classmates began recalling their youthful days and talked about the past fondly.
"Do you remember how Amelia sprained her ankle that year? Victor always piggybacked her to class and study sessions.
"So many classmates teased him whenever they saw him carrying her. It was my first time seeing the unapproachable school hunk get shy!"
"There was also a time when guys would knit scarves for their girlfriends at school. After we got our scarves, all we had to do was drop a few hints, and Victor stayed up every night to learn how to do it. It only took him one week of late nights to finish knitting a scarf for Amelia!"
"I remember clearly that there was another dude who wanted to pursue Amelia. After he got rejected, he spread nasty rumors about her out of fury and embarrassment.
"Victor, who was at the top of his class at law school, broke the rules for Amelia for the first time ever. He ran over and beat that guy up. It was really satisfying!"
