Oh No! They're Salivating Over Me!
Chapter 1
Herkoen Wenley was topless in the dim light. Drops of sweat streamed down his sturdy chest, leaving perfect trails behind. The veins on his arms were popping, looking extremely manly.
He fell into someone's trap and went into heat in advance, so his body was burning. He could not take it anymore and tore Daphne Miller's clothes with all his might.
Daphne could feel that her clothes were being removed, piece by piece, but she could not wake up.
Was she not dead already? Why must she suffer such humiliation? Feeling ashamed and enraged, she managed to wake up by her sheer willpower and fight back.
Unfortunately, her strength was nothing compared to Herkoen's. Not only did her resistance do nothing, but it sparked Herkoen's desire to make her submit to him instead.
"Who are you? Go away!" Daphne shouted.
Herkoen kissed her like he had gone mad. Both their lips and breath were entwined to the point that Daphne almost suffocated.
Herkoen's rough fingers brushed against Daphne's fair neck.
In the end, Daphne could not hold herself back and bit Herkoen's shoulder as revenge. Then, she could not take it anymore and passed out.
Daphne had no idea that she had accidentally marked an extremely powerful figure.
…
Herkoen noticed that someone was beside him when he woke up, and he immediately had his guard up and choked the person's neck.
Daphne did not react at all.
It was only then that Herkoen remembered what he had done. He had always hated females the most, but he had slept with one. This would certainly become trouble if it were not taken care of, especially since the woman was pretty. She was beautiful yet dangerous.
Besides, Herkoen had great psionic strength, so he would never have a child in his life anymore. There was no benefit for him in keeping this woman around.
His hands turned into sharp claws, and he wanted to take her life. However, he was stunned after he saw a silver cobra that looked very lifelike wrapped around her arm.
Then, a piercing boom cut through the sky, and a bullet shot through the glass. Herkoen caught the bullet.
The Beastkin had great eyesight. Herkoen could see the man standing on the building across from him. It was a colonel from Hildi—Lester Waltzan.
Eric Stone, Herkoen's staff, rushed in as soon as he heard the gunshot and shielded Herkoen behind him.
"Let's go. Lester is just showing off. He's just a colonel. He won't have the guts to start a war," said Herkoen before he gave Lester the middle finger to provoke him.
Lester put his gun away and watched them disappear.
The authorities received information that the Renegade Coalition had the audacity to build a base in their country to collect information. They had also taken many innocent young women to be their escorts.
That was why the authorities had asked Lester to take this place down in the name of a crackdown. However, they had a request—Lester was not allowed to harm Herkoen.
It was common for two countries to go to war with each other. They could just go to Unmanned Planet on their battleships and fight it out. The winner could then name their request. That was the law laid down by Beast God.
Members of the Renegade Coalition were cruel and cunning by nature. Herkoen was their heir. If Lester killed him, the coalition would attack the people of Hildi regardless of who they were. The people would be the ones to suffer in the end.
In the blink of an eye, Lester arrived in the suite that Herkoen was in earlier, and he immediately noticed the naked young woman lying on the bed.
There were still slight whiffs of lustful scent lingering in the room. There were also tears in the corner of Daphne's eyes, which showed what a brutal night she must have gone through.
Daphne arrived at a void while she was unconscious. She looked at the figure reflected on the ground and wondered how someone who was about to die could experience so much all of a sudden.
"Child Delivery System is selecting a host."
"A host was successfully selected. Transportation was successful."
At that moment, a small white ball appeared in front of Daphne.
"Congratulations, Daphne, you've been linked to the system. I'll be liaising with you from now on. The quest that you have to complete and the generation about this world will be shown on the status panel. Please have a look," said the system.
Daphne read the words carefully and learned that human civilization had disappeared.
Animals had evolved into Beastkin and had psionic strength. Males were ranked by their psionic strength, with Rank S being low, Rank SS being middle, Rank SSS being high, and Rank SSS+ being very rare.
It was very rare to find two Rank SSS+ males in a country. A male of such rank was called the child who was blessed by Beast God. He would have a bright future, but it would be difficult for him to have a descendant.
Females were ranked by their fertility, which had the same number of ranks as the psionic strength of the males. To become a mated pair, the female needed to mark the male.
However, the highest rank so far for fertility in a female had only been Rank SS. The children they delivered would only be at Rank SS, and they would have to work hard if they wanted to level up their psionic strength.
As long as Daphne became a mated pair with a male with strong psionic strength and delivered a child with a high rank, she would be rewarded a high number of points. Points could be used to exchange for necessities in the system marketplace. As long as she completed the quests given by the system on time, she would be rewarded a chance to let her and her family live again in the end.
"You have one chance to reject this quest and die according to your original life. The system will continue to search for the next host," said the system.
Daphne accepted the quest without any hesitation after she saw the final reward.
Her planet had fallen because of a zombie virus outbreak, and nobody could save them anymore. One after another, her family drank poison, and Daphne was no exception. She would do anything as long as she could reunite with her family.
"Alright, Daphne. Pleasure working with you," said the system.
Daphne opened her eyes slowly and saw that everything around her had become unfamiliar. A man was standing by the window with his back facing her.
As soon as she moved, her entire body started aching, and she gasped in pain.
The man turned around and showed his concern without any expression, saying, "You're awake."
He was in a military uniform. Daphne felt a chill down her spine when she met his gaze.
"I'm sorry to have frightened you." He had gotten used to a situation like that. Countless females would hide from him when they saw him because he had too much blood on his hands and had a ferocious air about him.
"My name is Lester Waltzan. You can call me Lester," he added.
Daphne nodded, not daring to say anything. Lester was too intimidating.
"The United Federation could not find out who you are. Were you kidnapped when you were a child? You can treat me as a shoulder to cry on and tell me everything that you've gone through.
"You don't have to be afraid. I'm a colonel from Hildi. Everything I ask you is legal. You can trust me completely," said Lester.
It seemed like Lester was quite an important person. All Daphne wanted to know was if the man who had taken her innocence was alive or dead.
"What happened to the people in the boxing ring?" Daphne asked.
Lester glanced at his watch and answered, "They've all been detained and thrown into jail. The other women who were sold to the brothels like you already had their statements taken. You're the only one left."
"What? Brothels?" Daphne asked.
What kind of stupid system was that? How could it transport her to a brothel? Daphne was speechless.
Lester glanced at the mark on her arm and told her the unfortunate news.
"Oh yes, you—already have a partner," he said.
Chapter 2
Lester was tactful when he told Daphne that she already had a partner.
There were no good people in the underground boxing ring. If Daphne wanted to end the partnership, both parties would have to head to the Marriage Commission. Lester thought about Herkoen's status and figured he should just forget it. He did not want to make Daphne sad.
"Could you please tell me everything that happened to you when you were in the ring? Maybe we can help you find your family," said Lester.
Daphne had no family on this planet.
"I'm sorry. I don't know why I was there. All I can remember is meeting you here," Daphne replied.
Lester felt sorry for her. She probably was forced to be an escort and was so traumatized that she had short-term memory loss.
He immediately had his adjutant arrange for Daphne to have a body checkup.
"Alert! Alert! Please reject the body checkup. Otherwise, they will find out that you're a pure human."
The system alarm suddenly went off, and Daphne was caught off guard. "C-Can I not go for the checkup?"
"People who frequent the underground boxing ring are vicious criminals. Many of them are carrying diseases. The checkup is for the sake of your health as well," replied Lester.
It was clear in this tone that he would not take no for an answer. After that, he told Daphne to get a good rest and left.
Daphne was left alone in the room.
What should she do? What excuse could she use to get out of this checkup?
Daphne was nervous the whole night, so she was extremely tired when she woke up the following day.
Lester came to look for her as promised, and a small robot came along with him.
The robot handed a vitalis tonic to Daphne and said, "Please take this, miss."
Lester saw that she seemed clueless about what it was. He did not have any expression, but he patiently explained to her.
"This is a vitalis tonic. It's used to replenish the nutrients and energy needed by the body. I only have tonics that are used in the military here at my place, so there's not much call for flavors. Just endure it for now. I'll have someone mix a flavor that you like especially for you when we get to Hildi Beastkin Hospital."
Daphne noticed that he mentioned this as his place. "May I know what place this is?"
"This is my home," Lester replied.
Daphne was right.
"We caught too many people in the underground boxing ring. There's no space in the jail anymore, so I brought you home for interrogation. I'll take you to jail once your medical report is out," Lester added.
Fuck! Not only was she transported into a brothel, but she had to be jailed as well. The system did not even tell her in advance! What an unreliable system!
Just as Lester said, the vitalis tonic tasted awful. However, Daphne needed to fill her stomach, so she had no choice but to force herself to drink more. She threw everything up in the end though.
Not only were there a great number of robots working at the manor, but even the car that Daphne rode in was technologically advanced. It looked just like a car on the outside, but it could fly.
The director of Hildi Beastkin Hospital, Bryan Newman, came out to personally welcome them. After he had exchanged some pleasantries with Lester, he ordered his assistant to conduct the checkup for Daphne.
"Please follow me, miss." The assistant was a woman, and her voice was very gentle. That made Daphne feel a little more at ease.
"Do I really have to get a checkup?" Daphne asked. She was still feeling a little worried.
Lester thought she was afraid of the machines because she had never had a body checkup before. On top of that, she was in an unfamiliar environment, and the machines would be controlled by strangers.
He then did his best to make himself appear less intimidating. "Mmhmm. Just go with this assistant to do your checkup. I'll be waiting for you right outside the door. You can just call me if you need anything," he replied.
It seemed like Daphne would have to do this checkup this time. She cheered herself on in her mind and thought about how to explain it after the result came out later.
The doctor who did the checkup for her was a woman, and the way she spoke was very gentle. After they waited for a long time, Bryan walked over with a solemn expression while holding the report.
He first greeted Lester before he looked at Daphne.
"You're not from our planet, aren't you?" Bryan asked.
Daphne was stunned. As expected, she had been found out. But it made sense. The technology there was extremely advanced. How could they not tell if she was a human or a Beastkin?
Bryan realized that the way he asked the question might have frightened Daphne. Because Lester was there as well, Bryan softened his tone and said, "Don't be nervous. This is my office. Other than the three of us, not another soul would learn about this. You just have to answer my questions."
Daphne nodded.
"Are you a pure human from the ancient times?" Bryan asked.
Lester, who never let his emotions show, was stunned upon hearing that. His beastly eyes widened after he saw Daphne nod, and he grabbed the report from Bryan. It was only then that he realized the shocking part was not the fact that Daphne was pure human.
Gender: Female (Humans called this a woman)
Age: 22
Fertility: Rank SSS+ (The highest rank)
Psionic strength: Unknown (Potentially Rank SSS+)
Lester did not even continue looking through the rest of the report. Just the information about Daphne's fertility alone was shocking enough. If this information got out, it would send shockwaves through the major galaxies.
Bryan explained, "The machine detected that this young woman is considered of age as an ancient human. But in Beastkin terms, she's just—a toddler. And she's pregnant. What should we do, Colonel Lester?"
Lester looked solemn. His hands trembled as he stared at the report, and he did not reply.
Bryan continued, "Her psionic strength is still a mystery. It's extremely unstable. The data that the machine detected were very unstable as well. For a moment, it's Rank SSS+, but in the next, it's zero. I'm guessing she might have been affected by the geomagnetic field of our galaxy, so she has psionic strength as well.
"However, all Beastkin have psionic strengths as soon as they are born, so they would've mastered how to use and control it at an early age. This young lady can't control it, but she will be able to do it if she trains hard for it later."
"Leave," said Lester.
"Huh?" Bryan did not expect Lester to say that and thought he had misheard him, so he responded out of reflex.
"You may leave the room," said Lester.
"Yes, sir," Bryan replied.
That meant only Daphne and Lester were left in the office.
After Daphne saw the introduction on the system panel, she knew very well that she had the highest rank for fertility and psionic strength among all females. She even had higher psionic strength than most males.
People with Rank SSS+ psionic strength were talents needed in every galaxy. After she weighed the pros and cons, she learned that her life would not be in danger.
Daphne was not worried anymore after analyzing everything. She saw Lester standing by the window and lighting a cigarette, and she started looking around out of boredom.
Her interest was piqued after she saw the certificates hanging on the wall behind Bryan's desk. One of them was particularly striking.
Hildi Beastkin Hospital was a hospital sponsored by the Waltzan family.
Hold on. Why did the Waltzan family sound familiar?
Lester had introduced himself to her with his full name—Lester Waltzan.
In other words, his family was wealthy and powerful. Otherwise, it would be impossible to support such a huge hospital in a great location like this. Daphne could even see the end of the hospital at a glance when she was in the flying car.
"Terminate your pregnancy," said Lester.
"Huh?" Daphne responded.
Lester put out his cigarette. "I said you must terminate your pregnancy, especially since the child has the blood of the Renegade Coalition running in their vein."
Chapter 3
Right at that moment, the system notification went off in Daphne's head once again.
"Congratulations on your pregnancy, Daphne. It's been detected that the father's psionic strength is Rank SSS, and he has a 10% chance of fathering a child. The harder it is to have a child, the higher the points you will be rewarded. Please protect your child well! "
What a great time to tell her that. Daphne was clenching her jaw so tight that her teeth were about to break.
"No, I don't agree," said Daphne.
"What?" Lester walked up to her and said, "Please say it again."
He was very intimidating. Daphne swallowed her saliva and said firmly, "I said I want to keep this child. Since God made them my child, I'm going to protect them."
Both of them locked eyes with each other, not fearing one another.
"Do you know who's the father?"
Lester was afraid she would become suspicious, so he added, "How are you going to raise the child on your own?"
"This is something for me to think about in the future. I'm going to keep them, no matter how hard and tiring it might be," Daphne replied.
The determination in her eyes moved Lester in the end, and he no longer insisted. Everything would be fine as long as Daphne and the child did not know who the father was, and Herkoen did not know that he had a child.
Herkoen's psionic strength was Rank SSS. His father, the leader of the coalition, had lost hope that Herkoen would have an heir in the future. The first thing Lester should do at the moment was to keep Daphne safe at all times. He absolutely could not let the Renegade Coalition learn about the news of her pregnancy.
He quickly came up with a plan in his mind. Before he left, he told Bryan to keep this a secret or he would be punished for leaking the country's top secret.
Daphne looked out the window as she sat in the flying car, but her mind was somewhere else.
In two short days, her life had been turned upside down, and she had no idea what would happen next.
Oh well, she would just take it one day at a time.
Suddenly, a glass of warm water appeared in front of her eyes. "Have some water. It'll be good for your health."
"Thank you," she replied. She accepted the water, but she only took a small sip.
"I've had someone request the authorities to have you detained at my manor. You can just stay at the manor to prepare for your delivery without any worries from now on," said Lester.
Daphne did not expect that he would go to such lengths. "Can I? Would I not cause you trouble?"
"It's fine. The women from the underground boxing ring are just locked in the Hildi Prison for ten days or so as a punishment. You guys are not heinous criminals. A small request like this will be approved. Arrangements will be made for all the women after that as well.
"Besides, you—you don't have an identity now. If the police were to find out after you leave, you'll be put in a shelter for females," Lester explained.
Upon hearing that, Daphne decided to just stay at his manor. The rules of this place were too scary. She would step over the line if she were not careful.
The flying car parked at the same spot before it left, which was outside Daphne's room.
"Lester!" A young man ran past Daphne and jumped into Lester's arms.
"Lenko, you're too rude. We have a guest here. Behave yourself."
After Lester had lectured the young man named Lenko Waltzan, he let go of his brother. Feeling embarrassed, Lenko glanced at Daphne and said, "I'm sorry, Lester. I didn't notice that we had a guest."
Then, he nodded at Daphne. She instantly became fond of him. What a polite young man.
"Alright. Wait for me in the study," Lester told Lenko.
It was after his brother left that Lester apologized to Daphne, saying, "I'm sorry. My brother is quite careless, so he didn't notice you."
Daphne felt that was very normal. Lester was at his home, interacting with his brother. She should be the one apologizing instead.
Seeing how apologetic Lester was made her feel extremely guilty. It was clear that Lester and Lenko had not done anything wrong.
But… Lester looked like a knight from the fairy tales. He was so handsome.
"You're such a pervert, Daphne. Wipe the drool off your face! You're going to drown me soon. Don't you forget that you're pregnant with another man's child," said the system.
"Shut up. Stop peeping at me," Daphne replied.
"Alright. I'll mute myself," said the system.
"It's fine. I like his happy and lively character. I'll let you get back to your work, Colonel Lester. I'm going to take a rest," said Daphne.
"Alright." Lester nodded and watched her go into her room.
His expression turned solemn as soon as he turned around, and he quickly went to the study before shutting the door hard behind him.
"Why are you here?" he asked.
Lester sprung up from the seat and stood up straight like a soldier.
"Lester, I came because I have something important to report to you," said Lenko.
"Go on." Lester sat at his desk, looking livid. He looked like he was telling Lenko that he had better have something important to say, or he would be punished.
"The Emperor has sent someone to spy on our family. It's clear that he is suspicious of us. Your suspicions are true," Lenko reported.
Seeing that Lester did not react much got Lenko feeling confused. "Why doesn't it look like you're worried to me? The Emperor is suspicious of our family. We would definitely be oppressed in the end."
Lester picked up the military documents that had already been arranged and looked through them. He said, "Our family has been bathing in glory for thousands of years. The people trust us deeply. It's only a matter of time for the emperor to be wary of us. If worrying could settle this problem, I would've done that a long time ago."
Lenko said, "But other than the issue with the Emperor's suspicion, we also have the other families keeping a close eye on us, ready to pounce. They just won't let us go if we make the slightest mistake. You have no idea how many trivial matters our family has to deal with every day."
He continued, "For example, they said our family allowed soldiers to hurt the citizens; they said our family's businesses sold bad products and asked the authorities to step in, and more. I feel sorry for Father every time I see him frown because of all these things."
Lester shot Lenko a glance, and Lenko realized he misspoke and immediately apologized.
"I know that very well without you telling me about it," said Lester.
The Emperor was wary that the Waltzan family's merits would overshadow him, so he showed hints of wanting to oppress them. At the moment, all he needed was for the family to make one major mistake, and he would be able to eradicate them for good.
That was why Lester was just a colonel and had never been promoted for years, even though he was the male with the most powerful psionic strength in Hildi.
Lester's father held an important position in the country. If the emperor allowed Lester to thrive, it would be harder for him to deal with them. They might even have the power to turn Hildi upside down.
"But Lester—"
Lester cut him off and said, "Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. Tell me, how are your homework and your grades?"
Lenko became excited at the mention of grades. He cleared his throat and started speaking without stopping.
"Let's talk about my latest grades, then. My psionic strength is at Rank SS+, but I showed signs of breaking through and reaching Rank SSS. I've mastered ancient history and modern history and scored an A for those.
"The best thing is that our school has started to let us learn about the structure of battleships, and we probably would be able to get some hands-on experience in another six months."
"Not bad," said Lester.
It was rare for Lester to praise Lenko, but Lenko did not seem too happy upon hearing it. Not a trace of a smile was on his face as he said, "But you could already pilot a small battleship when you were my age. You even knew about a few types of military weapons. I'm only starting to learn about them now."
"You mustn't get ahead of yourself," Lester responded.
Lenko accepted his fate. It was true that he was not as talented as his brother, but…
The figure of a woman suddenly popped into his head. He instantly turned into a nosy character and plopped himself down on Lester's desk.
"Lester, who's that lady from earlier? Is she my future sister-in-law?" he asked.
Chapter 4
"Don't spew nonsense, Lenko," said Lester.
Lenko, however, did not listen to his brother. "Actually, before I came here, Father banned me from learning how to improve my psionic strength after he learned about my rank. He did that to ensure the continuation of the Waltzan family bloodline."
He pursed his lips and continued, "In any case, the laws laid down by Beast God didn't say that males with Rank SSS+ psionic strength would certainly have no descendants. What if you got lucky? So, you should be brave and go after her if you like her."
Lenko fled as soon as he said that.
"He actually had the guts to lecture me. What a cheeky brat." Lester shook his head helplessly. Lenko was still the same as he was when he was a child. He did not change at all.
Lester had thought about what Lenko mentioned. It was just that his result was the same every time he did his checkup at Hildi Beastkin Hospital—he was infertile. It was destined to be very difficult for him to have a child. It was not 100%, but the doctor was 99% sure of it.
That was no different from saying it was 100% and sentencing him to death.
It would be impossible for him to get a partner in this life.
…
Daphne had hardly left her room for the past week because she was studying very hard on the rules of this planet. Her belly was bulging at great speed.
She did not expect that her baby would grow so quickly. She even called for the system because of it. That was when she learned that Beastkin pregnancy, from conception to birth, only lasted a month, and she was no exception.
It only took half a month for Daphne to go from being scared to feeling the fetal movement to looking forward to the birth of her child.
She did not see Lester at all for half a month, but she saw Lenko very often. Lenko was very chatty. He should only be about 15 years old in human age, which meant that Daphne was not that much older than him. They would chat for a while sometimes when they bumped into each other.
One day, Lenko ran to her in excitement and said, "Daphne, my vacation is ending in two days, and I'll have to return to my family. I want to give you a gift before I leave, but I don't know what you like. That's why I came to ask you."
Daphne had long treated him as her friend, so she did not refuse. "How much is your budget?"
"Er… 500 thousand dollars! That's all I have left on my card. My family will only be giving me my allowance next month, but I can't wait until then anymore," Lenko replied.
"I'll have to give it a good thought. I've been too bored staying here lately. There's nothing much to do," said Daphne.
A lightbulb went off in Lenko's head. "Oh yes, you can download the hottest app for short videos in this interstellar empire. Many interesting things or the latest news would often be posted in the app. I would scroll through it to kill time when I was bored."
"But I don't have a phone. I can't use your method to kill time," said Daphne.
"That's a small issue. I'll order one for you on my phone. It'll be delivered by drone in half an hour."
"Really?" Daphne asked.
"When have I ever lied to you?" Lenko asked in return.
"Alright. The phone shall be your gift to me, then," said Daphne.
"Huh? Is it too simple?" Lenko asked.
Daphne shook her head. "I'll like the gift as long as it's from you. I also can't let you spend too much money."
"Alright, then. I'll be back, and I'll definitely pick the most expensive gift for you then."
"Alright. It's a deal," said Daphne.
Lenko started picking a phone with the best performance on the marketplace for Daphne. He did not see it, but her lips curled into a smile.
It had been half a month, and Lester had probably forgotten about Daphne. But it made sense. She was just a criminal; why should he remember her?
However, if she wanted to survive in this place in the future, she could not be out of touch with the things here.
She had no idea how long Lester would keep her in this manor. He might ask her to leave as soon as she delivered her child. Even if he said nothing, she could not keep staying since she had nothing to do with him.
Soon, the phone was delivered by a robot from the outside, and Lenko taught her how to use it.
The phone was not quite the same as the one Daphne had on her planet, but she was a fast learner. It did not take long for her to familiarize herself with the functions.
The next step was to help her authenticate her identity. Daphne did not have an ID, so she could only use the app that came with the phone, and she had no network.
Lenko was from the Waltzan family, so of course, he could not authenticate for her. He then had a household staff from the manor do it for Daphne.
Once the authentication was complete, her phone automatically got network. After she set up voice recognition, the phone became just like a robot and would not accept any orders from anyone but its owner.
"I've downloaded the app for you, Daphne. You can try opening it with your voice," said Lenko
Daphne was very familiar with that. It was just like a voice assistant for humans. "Open the short video app."
The phone automatically opened the app, and she could switch between the entertainment channel, the military channel, or the general channel as she pleased.
Also, if she felt the phone was too big and troublesome to carry, she could turn it into a watch, bracelet, or other accessories. It could be transformed as she pleased.
Daphne felt it was very interesting. She could make a call without a SIM card, and the phone was very easy to carry around.
She accidentally clicked on the military channel, and the big title caught her attention.
"Members of Renegade Coalition disguised as citizens have infiltrated Hildi. Residents are advised to avoid heading out after nightfall."
Lenko noticed it too. He thought she was scared, so he comforted her by saying, "Don't worry, Daphne. My brother has sent a troop to search for them. They'll be caught very soon."
So that was what Lester had been working on lately.
Suddenly, Lenko moved his head closer to Daphne and asked with great interest, "Daphne, what's your relationship with my brother? Also, are you pregnant with my brother's child? I'm very curious. If it's really my brother's child, then that means a person with psionic strength as powerful as my brother would still have hope of having a child of his own. That's great news!"
The way his mind worked was truly something else.
"No, I—" Daphne paused. If she told him that she was actually a criminal and was specially locked up here by Lester because of her special identity and her pregnancy, would he still talk to her in the future?
"The child is not your brother's. As for who I am, you'll know if you ask your brother," said Daphne.
"Fine." A hint of disappointment gleamed in Lenko's eyes, but it vanished in an instant because he remembered something else.
"Daphne, Lester has gotten a new type of hunting dog. Let's go check it out!" Lenko suggested.
Daphne had not seen a hunting dog from this planet, so she happily agreed.
Because her belly was as big as a human who was seven months pregnant, she was much slower when she walked. Fortunately, Lester had prepared a nanny named Britney Parker for her. With Britney supporting her, it was not too hard for her to walk.
There was a dog training ground in the manor dedicated to training hunting dogs. It was at the far corner of the manor, and it had a huge river behind it. Therefore, there was no need to worry that bad people would sneak in from this place.
As soon as the three of them arrived, they saw a dog that was bigger than a tiger locked up in a cage, and it was seeing red.
Daphne could not stop feeling uneasy after she saw the dog. It was unclear if it was because she was afraid.
At that moment, the robots standing on either side exploded without making any sound.
Chapter 5
Daphne was walking slowly, so she dodged a bullet. However, Lenko was not as lucky. He was sent flying because of the explosion.
Because the explosion was silent and was within a controlled area, robots in the distance could not detect that an explosion had happened on this end.
In the blink of an eye, a man in a black suit that made him look like a bodyguard jumped over the wall from the outside. Water was dripping from his body onto the sand.
Britney was incredibly diligent and stayed by Daphne's side the whole time.
Seeing that the assassin was getting closer and closer, Daphne protected her belly with both her hands. She kept calling out to the system in her head, telling it that nobody would be completing its mission if she were dead.
She did not get a response from the system, but the assassin suddenly left voluntarily.
Was he not holding a gun and trying to kill them earlier? Why did he suddenly leave?
"Stay right here, miss. I'll call for the troop to come over," said Britney.
Daphne immediately went forward to check on Lenko's injuries after Britney left.
He had a few scratches on his face, but his clothes were completely torn. Fortunately, he protected himself with his psionic strength.
Britney used the Robo to contact the troop. A flying car arrived in half a minute, and a troop of soldiers stepped out. A few of them quickly carried Lenko into the car while the others followed the tracks and went after the assassin.
…
The dim room suddenly became bright because a subordinate opened the door. Immediately after that, the room was covered in darkness again.
Eric glanced at the curtains that were drawn. Herkoen would always lock himself in darkness whenever he was in a bad mood. Then, Eric greeted Herkoen with respect.
The Beastkin's vision would not be affected by darkness, but Herkoen did not even bat an eye at Eric. He had a cigarette between his fingers. He could not even begin to think that the woman from that night was still alive and that she was pregnant.
The reason they had a member of the coalition infiltrate Hildi was to kill all those people who were detained. They also wanted to intimidate the people in Hildi, which included Daphne.
However, after the feed was transmitted and he saw that she was pregnant, he told the assassin to leave.
At that moment, he was regretting terribly that he had suddenly spared her life. His psionic strength was Rank SSS, which meant he had no hope of having a child in the future. That woman must be pregnant with another male's child.
Then, he panned the feed until it was showing an image of Daphne, and he said, "Kill her."
Eric felt that she looked very familiar, and then it hit him. He was very shocked as well. "Mr. Wenley, if she's really pregnant with your—"
"That's impossible," said Herkoen.
Eric lowered his head and said, "I'm sorry. I misspoke."
"Forget it. She's in Lester's manor. Their defense will definitely be stronger after this attack. Bring some men along, and I'll end her life myself."
"Yes, Mr. Wenley," Eric replied.
…
Daphne, who was far away in Hildi, had no idea that the father of her child wanted to kill her himself. All she could worry about at that moment was Lenko.
He was a very sincere young man. He would not look down on others because of their family status, and he treated Daphne with sincerity.
She asked the Robo from time to time if Lenko had returned from Hildi Beastkin Hospital or if there was any news about him.
The Robo would answer her the same thing every time. "I'm sorry. I don't have any information about Mr. Waltzan for now. I'll inform you as soon as I receive any information."
Britney comforted Daphne, saying, "He's a good person, so he'll be fine. Besides, when I protected you, I saw him using his psionic strength to defend himself. He probably won't be seriously injured. Don't be too sad. It's not good for your child."
"Let's hope so." Daphne looked at the scenery outside the window, lamenting that things were simply unpredictable in this world.
At that moment, the Robo said, "Colonel Lester is back."
Lester was back?
Daphne went to his study with the help of Britney.
The study was filled with classified information. Machines would have a chance to be hacked, no matter how advanced they were. That was why soldiers were standing guard on either side of the door instead.
"The study is for permitted personnel only. Please leave at once," said a soldier.
"Could you please tell the colonel that I'm here? I have something to ask him," Daphne requested.
"I'm sorry. Colonel Lester told us not to let anybody disturb him."
Daphne returned in disappointment. She felt uneasy. She felt deep down that a small part of the incident was her fault.
She wanted very badly to know how Lenko was doing. She would feel much more at ease if someone could tell her that Lenko's life was not in danger. She would not have to be worried all the time like she was at the moment.
"Should I prepare the same snack like yesterday, Ms. Miller?" Britney asked.
Daphne sighed and replied, "I don't have any appetite right now, so there's no need to do that for now."
"Go and get it prepared." Lester's voice sounded outside the door.
Daphne was shocked as she looked at him. "Why are you here?"
Lester was still in a military uniform, and he looked a little tired. "I heard from the soldier that you came to look for me. I thought maybe there was something urgent, so I came rushing over."
"I'm not interrupting your work, am I?"
"No, you're not," Lester replied.
Britney placed the snacks on the table as the two of them spoke to each other. They were mostly desserts.
"May I know how Lenko's injuries are?" Daphne asked.
"You don't have to worry, Ms. Miller. Lenko's injuries are not serious. He just needs to recuperate for two days, and he'll be completely fine," Lester replied.
Daphne finally felt a weight had been lifted off of her chest.
"That's good to hear. Have you had lunch, Colonel Lester?" she asked.
Lester shook his head. "I haven't."
Daphne pushed a small piece of cake to him and said, "Then, you should have this dessert for now and have someone bring you some vitalis tonic later."
Lester looked at the dessert in front of him. The Beastkin did not need to eat anything—they only needed to take vitalis tonic. That was why he had never had such a dessert growing up.
"This is…"
Daphne looked at him in disbelief. "This is a cake. Do you not know that?"
Lester shook his head and said, "I've never seen it before."
"There are bigger cakes that are meant for birthdays. Don't tell me that people here have never celebrated their birthdays."
Lester shook his head again. "We do celebrate birthdays, but we don't eat the big cakes that you talk about. We would just hold a feast instead."
Wow. The wealthy truly was something else. They just threw a feast to celebrate their birthdays instead.
Daphne thought to herself that she should never have asked.
Lester picked up a small bite of the cake with the fork and gave it a taste. His eyes widened as soon as the smooth sweetness touched his taste buds.
"It's not bad. It's a taste I've never tried before," he said.
Daphne had long figured out that he was a reserved person. Even if he were happy, he would not let it show. She knew he liked it, so she pushed the cup of tea to him and said, "Try this."
Lester took a sip and was surprised that something else was added to it. "What was added to the tea?"
"It's fruits that were cut into small pieces," Daphne answered.
"I've never seen Britney make these as I was growing up. You're the one who taught her, aren't you?" Lester asked.
"Ms. Miller is very good with her hands. She taught me a few times patiently before I mastered it," said Britney as she stood at the side.
Lester nodded. "Mmhmm. She is truly very good with her hands."
Daphne felt a great sense of achievement after she was praised by a person as aloof as Lester. Praises as such probably would not come out of his mouth easily.
"Daphne, I suddenly realized Colonel Lester is also a good candidate. Why don't you get pregnant with his child next? It'll be easy for you to get him since you're already in his manor. He's rich, powerful, and handsome," said the system.
