Reborn to Escape the Ending

Chapter 1

Daphne Yeager had been reborn. It happened on the fifth time her husband, Wilson Farrell, asked her for a divorce.

Each time he requested a divorce, he raised the stakes.

Initially, he offered a mansion and ten million dollars in cash before moving on to offering 10% shares and a whole building. This time, he simply gave her almost half of his assets.

Daphne knew that there wouldn't be a next time.

Because on the sixth time, he would kidnap her right away and throw her onto a bed with Sebastian Turner, Wilson's archenemy who Wilson had drugged beforehand, solidifying the accusation of her infidelity during their marriage.

Wilson would have Daphne leave their marriage while his assets remained intact, and she'd end up committing suicide out of shame after being exposed for adultery.

Then, he would use this opportunity to ruin Sebastian's reputation completely so that he wouldn't have the chance to compete against him in the industry.

Everything Wilson did was for his mistress, Yvonne Smith.

Yvonne was a rising star in the entertainment industry, having started only a year ago. She was a sweet and innocent damsel. She was young, gentle, and angelically beautiful. She had a pair of pretty eyes that sometimes held a shy look as though they were reflecting her quiet innocence.

Even Daphne couldn't deny the fact that Yvonne was more likable compared to someone as arrogant as she was.

But she wasn't like this from the beginning.

Daphne only began acting so overbearing when Wilson started to return home later than usual, with different perfumes lingering on him. Not long after that, he started forgetting all their anniversaries.

She had made a fuss about it and also turned a blind eye to it, but she knew that they were just Wilson's casual flings. He had never once considered getting a divorce—until Yvonne showed up.

Wilson had said that Yvonne was innocent and sensitive. Unlike Daphne, Yvonne couldn't handle the gossip about her. Thus, Wilson needed to give her a rightful status.

He also said that without someone powerful to support her in the entertainment industry, it would be difficult for Yvonne to succeed. Furthermore, Daphne had already made a name for herself, so she no longer needed someone to back her up.

He sounded as if Daphne had cruised through the entertainment industry back then and as if she tolerated the criticism well. How absurd.

"These terms are already generous enough, Daphne. You'd better not ask for more than what's reasonable."

A flicker of impatience crossed Wilson's cold expression. He pulled his necktie lightly, unintentionally revealing a hickey behind the collar of his shirt.

Daphne had refused to divorce him after seeing the hickey in her previous life. She even had a huge fight with Wilson. Afterward, she went to the set where Yvonne was filming to beat her up just to vent her anger.

Wilson didn't return home for a whole month after that. And when he did, he showed no mercy to her.

In this life, Daphne wouldn't hold on to Wilson any longer. She quickly took the pen and signed her name neatly, afraid that Wilson would have second thoughts.

"You can't change your mind now. Remember, there can't be a single cent short."

Wilson was stunned at how decisive she was. "What tricks are you playing again?" He frowned.

Daphne was confused. "Aren't you asking for a divorce? I'm only fulfilling your request. Why are you accusing me of playing tricks now?"

Upon hearing what she said, Wilson went silent for a moment. He then snatched away the marital settlement agreement and checked on Daphne's signature. After confirming that it was indeed her signature, a sense of unease washed over him out of nowhere. "You'd better not be playing tricks."

It wasn't Wilson's fault for being so skeptical. After all, Daphne had exhausted all kinds of methods to trick him in all the previous four times just to avoid the divorce.

She lied about being diagnosed with cancer, pretended to be kidnapped, faked a car accident, wrote a fake name on the marital settlement agreement, and lied about being pregnant, which was the most ridiculous method she used.

Daphne had been so adamant about not getting a divorce. Thus, when she suddenly gave in, Wilson couldn't help but feel something fishy about it.

Wilson didn't want to miss this opportunity even if she really was up to something. "I'll see you at the courthouse tomorrow at 9:00 am."

Wilson then walked away, shooting Daphne a disdainful glare.

As he reached the door, his phone rang.

Wilson looked down at his phone. Immediately, his expression softened, no longer looking like the person who had been so harsh to Daphne earlier.

Daphne watched as he answered the phone with a gentle look on his face. He sounded very affectionate as he comforted the person on the other end of the line. He used a tone she hadn't heard in years. "I'm almost done on my end. Please don't be mad, okay? I'm coming over now…"

Although she had decided to get a divorce from Wilson, it still hurt her to see how cruel he was to her.

They dated for three years before marrying each other, then spent another seven years as husband and wife. In total, she had spent a decade with Wilson.

She had witnessed Wilson being head over heels for her before, which was why she couldn't accept the fact that he didn't seem to care about her anymore all of a sudden.

What kind of emotional rush was it to him, really? Wilson was willing to give up half of his assets, throw the wife he once loved onto a bed with another man, and then pressure her to commit suicide all just to get a divorce.

Daphne had been curious about the answer to that question to the very end of her previous life.

However, now that she had been reborn, she no longer wanted to waste her time looking for the answer.

Wilson simply fell out of love, and there wasn't a specific reason for it.

The next morning, Daphne put on a beautiful red dress and headed to the courthouse, all dressed up.

Wilson sneered the moment he saw her, "Look at you, all dolled up. Are you really that happy to be divorcing me?"

Daphne shrugged. "How can I not be happy when I can finally leave this miserable marriage?"

"A miserable marriage?" Wilson was stunned momentarily as if he hadn't expected her to describe their marriage like this.

Just then, a charming lady ran up to him and linked her arms with his. "Are you done, Mr. Farrell?"

Daphne, who had been in a good mood, felt disgusted by Yvonne's sudden arrival. Especially the sight of Yvonne's sweet smile, which looked so ironic as if she were celebrating their doomed marriage.

"Why did you bring the homewrecker here?" Daphne responded with annoyance.

Upon hearing Daphne's voice, Yvonne timidly hid behind Wilson. With a frightened expression, she said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Yeager… I… I didn't see Mr. Farrell this morning when I woke up. I remembered he said he'd be at the courthouse in the morning, so I came to see him…

"I'm not here to annoy you on purpose…"

Yvonne's eyes brimmed with tears as she spoke.

Daphne didn't know what had Yvonne feeling so hurt. All she could think about was how poor Yvonne's acting skills were.

Too bad Wilson always fell for this kind of trick.

"That's enough, Daphne. Do you have to be this harsh on Yvonne? She's innocent."

"Harsh? I was just telling the truth." Daphne scoffed. "If she really was innocent, would she have gotten into bed with you while we were still married? She seems very cunning to me."

"Quit it, Daphne! Yvonne isn't the reason we ended up like this." Wilson kept Yvonne behind him and frowned. "Take your anger out on me, not her."

Chapter 2

Daphne felt a faint trace of melancholy wash over her.

Didn't Wilson put Daphne through a tough time then as well when he forced her to quit the role in a famous director's movie just to pave the way for Yvonne's success?

"Do you really have to go this far to protect her? Don't forget that we're still married now, Wilson. She'll remain a mistress until we get our divorce certificate!" Daphne glared at Wilson with burning hatred in her eyes.

"You!" Upon hearing her words, Wilson's expression soured even more as he grew increasingly upset. "You'll never learn to be gentle and likable!"

Daphne would definitely be hurt by what Wilson had just said if it were in the past. But now, she didn't want to waste time on Wilson anymore.

She lowered her head to look at the watch. "Are we still going to proceed with the divorce procedures today? I have an important meeting in the afternoon. Don't waste my time if we're not doing it today," she urged.

"A meeting? With who?" Wilson blurted out asking.

Before Daphne could retort, Yvonne interrupted, "Ms. Yeager has her freedom to meet with whoever she wants, right, Mr. Farrell? Don't you want a divorce anymore? Why are you asking a question like that?"

Yvonne sounded even more aggrieved now, and there was a hint of tremor in her voice.

Wilson came to realize what he had just asked. He caressed Yvonne's hair lightly, comforting her. When he turned to look at Daphne, he wore an indifferent gaze. "Let's do it now!"

As they walked out of the courthouse, Daphne felt a sense of relief as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

On the contrary, Wilson was slightly absent-minded. To his surprise, Daphne hadn't hesitated one bit when she was signing her name. She neither made a fuss nor regretted her decision. She really wanted a divorce, and she wasn't playing any tricks.

Wilson hesitated a little when he was holding the pen. But when he remembered that this was a hard-earned opportunity to get a divorce, he immediately signed his name. After all, he couldn't let Daphne have another chance to pick on Yvonne.

"We have a one-month cooling-off period. I hope you don't cause any trouble. Also, stay away from Yvonne," Wilson warned before getting into the car.

Yvonne bashfully tugged Wilson's sleeve. She remarked empathetically, "Please don't talk to Ms. Yeager like that, Mr. Farrell. She's your ex-wife, after all. I believe she won't do anything to me…"

"I can't guarantee anything, though." Daphne smirked on purpose. "I might give you a hard time in the industry, who knows?"

Yvonne already started to emphasize Daphne's identity as his "ex-wife" at this point. Her feelings were out in the open, and she no longer wanted to hide them.

Wilson was the only person who couldn't tell Yvonne's true intentions.

Yvonne's face turned pale at Daphne's words. She gazed at Wilson with grievance in her eyes. "Mr. Farrell…"

Wilson immediately frowned. "Do you always have to be so sharp-tongued, Daphne?"

It was too ridiculous for him to say that. Wasn't he the one who turned her into this?

On their wedding anniversary, Wilson left Daphne just to attend a wrap party with Yvonne. When Daphne was injured while filming, she wanted Wilson to visit her, but all he did was back Yvonne up against the director.

There was also a time when a few stalker fans kidnapped Daphne, but Wilson was enjoying his holiday with Yvonne in Marindale.

Thus, when all their love and trust were gone, they became cruel to each other.

Daphne couldn't bear seeing the awful couple acting like they were in a TV show right in front of her. She turned around and left. "Think whatever you want!"

She felt like Wilson was gazing at her intensely as she left, but she wasn't sure if she was feeling things. Filled with doubt, she turned back, only to see him wrap his arms around Yvonne and comforting her gently.

The scene was a bit too much for her.

Despite the fact that she was reborn, she still couldn't accept the fact that Wilson cheated on her. Hence, she turned away and drove to leave.

She wasn't simply provoking Wilson when she mentioned having an important meeting in the afternoon; she did make plans with someone.

And the person she had an appointment with was Sebastian, the eldest son in the Turner family as well as the person Wilson hated the most.

In Daphne's previous life, Wilson got her drunk and tossed her onto a bed with Sebastian, leading to an intimate night between them. Sebastian had made love with her all night long, wearing her out completely.

At first, Daphne thought it was the drug that made him act that way. But when Wilson and his people barged in and caught them red-handed, Sebastian insisted that he was the one who forced Daphne into this just to protect her.

The police officers then brought Sebastian away. Turner Group's share prices plummeted because of the scandal.

For this reason, he was dismissed from the board of directors. His father, Peter Turner, stripped away Sebastian's inheritance rights due to his disappointment in him.

As for Wilson, he took this opportunity to snatch quite a few projects from Sebastian. In addition to that, he took out the video he had secretly recorded that night to pressure Daphne into divorcing.

Wilson had set up the camera in the hotel room beforehand just to record the proof of Daphne "cheating" on him.

In the video, Daphne and Sebastian were tangled in the sheets all night. There was no way she could refute it.

Then, Wilson instructed Yvonne to provide Daphne with two options. The first was that Daphne should agree to the divorce and admit that Sebastian had forced her into non-consensual sex, which would have him sent to prison. The second option was for Daphne to agree to the divorce and admit that she cheated on Wilson, then leave the marriage with nothing.

If she refused to pick one of those two options, Wilson would make the video of the two of them rolling in bed public, completely ruining their reputations.

Daphne was a famous celebrity. A scandal like this would ruin her whole career.

In the end, Daphne rejected both options.

She was the victim, so she couldn't inflict harm on another victim. Still, she didn't want to give Wilson what he wanted.

Hence, she committed suicide, leaving a note to prove Sebastian's innocence and revealing Wilson's schemes to the public. After all, people only believed the words of the dead.

She had no idea if Sebastian successfully turned the situation around after she died. She only knew that she had the chance to prevent all that from happening in this life and leave the man who had ruined her whole life.

In the most expensive cruise ship restaurant in Serrington, Sebastian, who was wearing a custom-made suit, comfortably lounged in his seat. The ocean breeze caressed his delicate face, ruffling his carefully styled hair.

He was born with a pair of enchanting eyes. Any woman who looked into his eyes would feel as though she was the only one deeply loved by him.

He seemed like a loving person. However, in reality, he was a cold-hearted man. Besides, he had numerous rumored girlfriends but had never officially dated anyone.

The moment Daphne appeared, Sebastian put on his signature smirk. "Are you not worried that Mr. Farrell will be upset after he knows you've asked me out, Mrs. Farrell?"

Daphne rolled her eyes.

What was he playing at? The rumors about Wilson and Yvonne were all over the place. Sebastian must have heard of them too.

He was obviously trying to irritate her.

"You don't have to be so sarcastic. We're already divorced."

Sebastian spat out the wine he had just drank. "Pardon?"

Daphne placed her bag on the seat across from Sebastian naturally. Then, she sat down. "We went to the courthouse this morning. After the cooling-off period, we'll receive our divorce certificate."

Sebastian took a few seconds to understand what she meant. Then, he furrowed his brows. "Why did you want to see me, then?"

Daphne didn't reply to that. Lowering her head, she rummaged through her bag and took out a pair of rings, placing them in front of Sebastian. "I've taken away half of Wilson's assets. Would you like to marry me?"

Chapter 3

Sebastian was taken aback by Daphne's words twice in just a minute.

"Do you have any idea what you're saying, Ms. Yeager?"

He stared at Daphne in confusion as if the woman in front of him was a monster who came from nowhere instead of the gorgeous actress loved by everyone.

Daphne knew this might come off a bit out of the blue for him. After all, he was the eldest son of the Turner family and his grandfather, Steven's, favorite grandson. He could easily date any woman if he wanted to, so why did he have to marry a woman who had just gotten a divorce like her?

But Sebastian was the only person on an equal footing with Wilson.

She had to rely on Sebastian's influence to stand against Wilson. Besides, she wanted to ensure that Wilson had no room to regret his decisions.

She had starred in various films and TV shows, and she hated the plot where a person turned over a new leaf just to win someone back the most.

On a more important note, she had already slept with Sebastian in her perspective. Thus, she had to be responsible for her actions.

"Let's just cut it short. Are you going to marry me or not? I'll look for someone else if you don't want to."

Daphne didn't have much patience. She reached out her hand to take the pair of rings back. Just as her fingers touched the jewelry box, Sebastian gripped her wrist.

His probing eyes glimmered darkly. "Don't you have to tell me why you're choosing me?" Sebastian asked.

His gaze was cold despite how he was actually grinning. He would suspect that Daphne was plotting against him if she didn't have a suitable reason.

Daphne replied truthfully, "I can't keep these assets without your help, Sebastian. Wilson will take them all back gradually."

She knew exactly where she stood. She wasn't a business-savvy person like Wilson. Instead, she was a veteran in the entertainment industry. She was the total package—she was attractive and in great shape, had amazing acting skills, and was good at socializing too. She simply lacked the business acumen.

The few times she ventured into business were all unsuccessful.

The shops she opened were all closed, and she even incurred losses for everything she had invested.

There was also once when she made the transition to filming a movie. She suffered a great loss from it to the extent that her huge fanbase couldn't help her turn things around.

Hence, this time, Daphne had to find someone to keep the money safe for her.

"You know how scheming Wilson is, right? He's an expert in the industry too. You didn't get anything out of him after years of competing with him, so how could I ever? But it'd be different if we got married. I can help you beat him," Daphne remarked as she stared at Sebastian with a serious look.

"Wilson is a smart one. He turned half of his assets into non-current assets and cash before giving them to me. On top of that, he only gave me 12.5% of his shares."

"12.5%?"

"Yes, and he's left with 53% of the shares, which means he still has absolute control over his company."

Giving Daphne half of his assets really set Wilson back a lot. But considering Farrell Group's current influence in the industry and their business scope, he would only have to spend some time to earn the amount back.

Daphne knew it all too well that what she received meant nothing to Wilson.

"Wilson is at his lowest point now. This is the best time to take action." Daphne dangled an attractive bait once again.

Sebastian was moved. "Let me think about it."

She was perplexed after seeing his attitude. When she fell into Wilson's trap in her previous life, Sebastian defended her resolutely. She thought she might be somewhat special to him.

However, she could tell that there was no difference between her and another woman, judging by his reaction just now.

Could it be that her guess was wrong?

Before she could think about it thoroughly, she heard a familiar voice she hated.

"Oh my, Ms. Yeager! So, the important meeting you mentioned earlier is a meeting with Mr. Turner?" Yvonne exclaimed, making Wilson look in their direction.

Wilson's expression darkened when he saw how Daphne and Sebastian were together.

Daphne was speechless. She couldn't believe she could bump into these two in a huge city like Serrington.

It was like fate always had a funny way of bringing enemies together.

Sebastian didn't interrupt them. He leaned back in his chair, watching the drama unfold with a smirk on his face.

It was very difficult to reserve a table in this cruise ship restaurant. Daphne had previously mentioned it multiple times to Wilson, asking him to bring her here. Every time, Wilson would tell her that he was busy and didn't have time to do so. But now, he had the time to bring Yvonne here.

Daphne tried to brush off the slight discomfort in her heart. Ignoring Wilson and Yvonne, she pretended like she was discussing business with Sebastian. "I'll think about the endorsement, Mr. Turner. You can discuss the details with my manager."

The endorsement?

Sebastian raised an eyebrow, chuckling. "I'll consider your 'requirements' too, Ms. Yeager."

Then, Wilson asked untimely, "You're going to endorse for Turner Group?"

He sounded as if he was interrogating her, which was utterly unpleasant for Daphne. "Yes, I am. Do you have any problem with it?"

The moment Daphne said "yes", Wilson's presence suddenly grew cold.

Even Yvonne noticed that something wasn't right.

She then bit her lip and whimpered, "Ms. Yeager, you made such a huge fuss about me and Mr. Farrell back then, and we even thought we owed you for it. But you and Mr. Turner are also…"

She deliberately paused without finishing her sentence to let Wilson figure the rest out.

As expected, Wilson's expression clouded over. "Very well, then."

Wilson always kept a stoic expression. They had been together for many years, and Daphne had never seen him lose control of his emotions or rage in public. Concealing his emotions was a lesson he learned after becoming someone in a higher position.

Thus, no one but Daphne knew that Wilson was clearly mad.

Endorsing for Turner Group was just a mere excuse Daphne had come up with to cover her real intention. As a result, Wilson prominently announced Yvonne as the global ambassador of a high-end luxury brand under Farrell Group, Story, for their ready-to-wear collection.

Story's ready-to-wear collection had a chic, mature womanly charm—one that a young lady like Yvonne couldn't quite pull off. Moreover, with her current status in the entertainment industry, there was no way she could secure such a high-profile endorsement.

The news went viral on the internet.

The fans knew what an endorsement like this could mean.

Yvonne's fans were beaming. After all, Yvonne had been bashed as a "homewrecker" for so long by Daphne's fans. They could finally strike back this time.

"The drama queen still refuses to let go of Mr. Farrell even when he clearly doesn't love her anymore. Didn't you guys notice that they haven't been seen together for almost a year? They probably got a divorce without announcing it publicly."

"It's so funny that the drama queen has been trying to get Story's endorsement forever, but Story literally announced Yvonne as their global ambassador. Yvonne's career is about to soar up high!"

"Now you know who Mr. Farrell cares about most. Just how romantic of him to confess his love like that!"

Daphne found the trending comments amusing. On the other hand, her manager, Ava Cole, was so furious that she started exploding in a fit of rage.

"Wilson is such a bastard. Back then, you desperately needed a substantial endorsement to prove your commercial value, especially with all the comments about falling out of favor in the fashion industry. We begged him for Story's endorsement, but he refused outright.

"He said something like, 'Your image doesn't match Story's vibe, and the consumers will surely get upset if you become the brand ambassador.' He even went on about how he has to keep personal and professional matters separate. That's bullshit!

"All his principles are tossed out the window when it comes to Yvonne."

Chapter 4

Ava was the manager who had been with Daphne since she debuted. Thus, Daphne could fully understand why Ava was so upset.

Daphne seemed like a celebrity who was loved by the netizens. But as she skyrocketed to fame, growing criticism began to appear.

Compared to those trained professionals with a privileged background and a range of talents, Daphne was an amateur from a rural background. Many people believed that her success was just by coincidence, and many critics were doubtful about her future prospects.

They mocked her for being tacky and lacked sophistication. The designer brand she wore would seem like clothing pieces from a bargain store. The more they doubted her, the more determined she was to prove her worth.

She had never begged Wilson before, but she dressed up nicely and visited him at a hotel where he was staying one day to beg for his help. Wilson rejected her without any hesitation. He told her Story's previous ambassadors were all world-class celebrities, and she wasn't one of them.

That was also when the paparazzi caught her entering the hotel with Wilson, which later exposed their relationship.

Since then, she had been surrounded by all kinds of rumors that said she got to the top with the help of some financial backers instead of her talent.

Wilson never bothered to clarify things for her.

He only told her that she didn't have to care about what others were saying about her because they would know the truth as time passed.

Thus, Daphne diligently worked on controlling her facial expressions, maintaining her posture, and improving her conversational skills to make herself look more sophisticated.

Whenever she participated in a public event, she would dress in Story's ready-to-wear collection, hoping that one day, she could get Story's endorsement to prove the people who had looked down on her wrong.

Surprisingly, in the end, she was the one who embarrassed herself.

Refusing to read the comments any further, Daphne shut down the computer. "Let him do whatever he wants. That's his own brand, after all. Even if Story's image is ruined, it's none of my business."

"Still, how could he do that to you? You were married for seven years, but you never enjoyed the advantages of being Mrs. Farrell. You were criticized for so long instead, and Yvonne just came and snatched everything from you. Just what's so good about her that makes her deserving of this?"

"Right…" Daphne mumbled to herself, recalling everything that had happened in her previous life. Then, she came to a conclusion. "Maybe it's because… Wilson loves her."

The moment Daphne finished her sentence, her assistant, Wendy Jones, rushed in with a grim expression. "Ms. Yeager, Mr. Farrell's mother is here…"

Wilson's mother, Leena Stone, disliked Daphne. If Wilson hadn't insisted on marrying Daphne, Leena would never have acknowledged her position within the family.

As soon as she appeared, she landed a slap on Daphne's face. "You wastrel! I asked you to watch over Wilson, didn't I? Look at what you've done! He was so charmed by Yvonne that he gave her Story's endorsement! You can't even keep your own husband in check. Why do we even need you in the Farrells?"

Daphne was taken aback by the slap. She only returned to her senses after hearing Ava and Wendy gasp in surprise.

"How could you slap her?" Ava stood in front of Daphne, her voice trembling in anger. "Your son chose the brand ambassador on his own. Daphne didn't even have a say in it! You should go and confront Wilson instead of harassing Daphne here!"

"My son always sticks to his own principles. Daphne failed to keep him in check, which led to Yvonne, that little vixen, finding a way to step into their relationship! Shouldn't I be confronting Daphne in this case, then?"

When Leena saw the news this morning, she was so furious that she felt like tearing Daphne apart.

She didn't dare to confront Wilson. She came to look for her daughter-in-law as a matter of course. Daphne had been like a punching bag to her for all these years.

To flatter Wilson, Daphne didn't dare to oppose Leena in the past. When Leena refused to be taken care of by the nurses after her surgery and specifically requested Daphne to take care of her, Daphne carried out all the dirty work without any complaints.

But now, Daphne refused to put up with this old woman any longer.

A loud smack echoed in the room.

Daphne gave Leena a fiery slap in return. "Even my parents have never hit me. Just who are you to do so? Did you give birth to me, or did you raise me? What right do you have to lay your hands on me?

"Wilson is a living person. Do I have to look after him? He's your son. Can't you do so yourself?"

Leena clutched the swollen side of her face, glaring at Daphne in disbelief. "How dare you slap me in the face? You've crossed the line!"

She was going to strike back. Just then, Daphne retorted, "Listen, Wilson and I are divorced. I've been letting you have it your way previously because you were my mother-in-law. But from now on, I have nothing to do with you.

"If you're looking for a punching bag to vent your anger, you can go to that little vixen your son has been keeping!"

"Wait, what? You got a divorce?" Leena was stunned.

"Yes, we're divorced!" Daphne left no time for Leena to process the information. Immediately, she made a call to Wilson in front of Leena.

She initially wanted Wilson to bring Leena back, but to her surprise, Yvonne was the one who picked up the call.

"You're divorced now, Ms. Yeager. Why are you still calling Mr. Farrell? The more you call him, the more he'll get upset with you!"

Yvonne's voice sounded as soft as usual. Perhaps because the day had finally come when Wilson was divorced, but she completely dropped her innocent façade.

"I want to talk to Wilson." Daphne was suppressing her anger. She cast a glance at Ava and Wendy, who were stopping Leena from rushing over, and continued in a low voice, "Let him answer the call now if you don't want me to regret my decision during the cooling-off period!"

Yvonne was silent for two seconds as if she was reluctant to the fact that Daphne was still ordering her around given the current circumstance. Thus, she replied sarcastically, "Give me a moment. He's in the shower now. I'll let him know."

Moments later, Wilson picked up the call and asked impatiently, "What's the matter now? We're already divorced. Can you stop bothering me?"

"Your mom is throwing a fit in my company. Come pick her up if you don't want to cause a huge scene." She hung up the call as soon as she finished her sentence.

Fifteen minutes later, Wilson arrived with Yvonne following him.

Hugo Sanders, Daphne's sleazy boss with a round face, rushed over when he heard that Wilson had arrived at his company.

"What's with you, Daphne? You should've told me that Mr. Farrell was coming over!" Hugo poured Wilson a cup of tea sycophantically with a huge grin. "When did you arrive, Mr. Farrell? Are you here for Daphne?"

Wilson ignored him.

The arrival of her son gave Leena confidence. After raging about how she was to tear into Daphne just now, she regained her composure. She then asked in a refined tone, "What happened between you and Daphne, Wilson? Why did you get a divorce?"

Right, how did it come to this point?

Daphne couldn't figure it out as well.

They did have their fair share of happy moments together.

Back when they had just gotten married, Wilson would always make time to visit Daphne on set no matter how busy he was. One time, she fell off the harness during a stunt. Wilson was so shocked that he abandoned a multi-million dollar project and flew back from abroad immediately, staying by her side and taking care of her.

All that felt like it had happened just yesterday.

And now, all the sweet memories in her mind had long been replaced by the bitter ones.

Things could never go back to how they were for them.

Then, Daphne let out a sneer sarcastically, "Isn't it obvious?"

She looked at Yvonne, waiting for her to speak.

Yvonne then turned to Wilson, acting like a meek. "Mr. Farrell, I…"

Wilson felt his heart throb the moment he heard her whimper.

Caressing her face, Wilson held her hand and walked toward Leena. "Let's not stay in touch with Daphne anymore, Mom. She and I no longer have anything to do with each other. My heart belongs to Yvonne now."

Chapter 5

"His heart belongs to Yvonne, huh?" Daphne thought to herself.

She let out a soft chuckle as tears streamed down her face.

Wilson had never once stood up for her like that even when Leena refused to accept her as part of the family nor when the Farrells excluded her and gave her a hard time.

It was just as expected from someone Wilson cherished with all his heart—Yvonne was treated so differently.

"Get lost!" Daphne fumed all of a sudden, pointing at the main door. "The three of you, get lost! I don't want to see any of you ever again!"

Daphne had hypoglycemia. Early in the morning, Ava called her to the office before she could get any breakfast, and now, she was so infuriated by the rest of them that it made her lightheaded. Her knees felt weak all of a sudden, and she almost collapsed to the ground.

"Ms. Yeager!"

Feigning concern, Yvonne stepped forward to help her. Then, she fell backward suddenly, looking as if Daphne pushed her away.

As everyone shifted their attention to Yvonne, they realized there was a scratch streaked with blood on her face.

"Is it because of what I said to you yesterday, Ms. Yeager? All I did was just comment on how you shouldn't be wearing the wedding band Mr. Farrell gave you anymore after the divorce. Do you have to scratch my face with it?

"You know that I'm a celebrity too, and I can't afford to leave a scar on my face… How could you do this? I… I even went to help you up…"

Yvonne was sobbing uncontrollably. It seemed she was putting her acting skills to use.

Almost immediately, Wilson crouched to check on her wound. He then spoke to Daphne in an utterly indifferent tone, "Daphne, give me your ring—now!"

Wilson himself designed the wedding band on Daphne's finger. Instead of embellishing it with diamond, it was set with a meteorite Wilson had bought at a hefty price at an auction. It was the one and only in the world.

Back then, everyone was shocked when Wilson designed a wedding band with the meteorite he bought.

A lot of people commented on Daphne's Twitter account, saying that they were envious of her and wishing her and Wilson a lifetime of happiness together.

This meteorite ring symbolized Wilson's ultimate expression of romance, which was also the remaining proof of the affection he had once showered Daphne with.

Daphne was reluctant to let go of it. She subconsciously covered the hand that was wearing the ring. "Aren't you going to check if she's telling the truth or not, Wilson?"

"Yvonne wouldn't lie to me." Wilson gritted his teeth in anger. "But you would."

That single statement from Wilson sounded like a dagger to Daphne's heart.

As a couple who had shared a life together for seven years, they had somehow reached a point where trust was completely gone for them.

Daphne was on the verge of tears as she removed the ring. "Okay. You want it back, right? You can have it!"

She had never taken off the ring ever since they got married. Thus, it had left an imprint on her finger.

Compared to how strikingly slender she was seven years ago, she had put on a bit of weight, making removing the ring difficult.

Seeing how she didn't manage to remove the ring after a while, Wilson walked up to her with a blank expression, thinking that Daphne was just refusing to take it off on purpose. Then, he grabbed her hand and yanked the ring off forcefully. "You're putting on quite a show, aren't you?"

The way Wilson removed the ring was so rough that it scraped off a small patch of Daphne's skin. It was hurting badly.

She hid her injured finger, suppressing the pain. "You got the ring. Can you leave now?"

"You haven't apologized to Yvonne." Wilson placed the ring into his pocket, glaring at Daphne coldly. "I won't go easy on you if there's a scar on her face."

Ava, who had been watching from the side, could no longer stand hearing their conversation. "Leave Daphne alone, Mr. Farrell! How far does she have to go with this? Do you want her to kneel and beg for your beloved's forgiveness?

"You know what kind of person Daphne is, so why would she deliberately scratch Yvonne's face? It was Yvonne who—"

"Did I ask for your opinion?" Wilson reprimanded harshly.

Daphne was taken aback. She knew Ava was just trying to protect her, but Wilson was someone no ordinary talent manager like her could afford to offend.

Immediately, she stood in front of Ava. "If you don't want me to post a long text about how Yvonne was the third wheeler in our relationship, you'd better leave my manager alone, Wilson."

"Don't you dare!"

"Why wouldn't I?"

Before the situation went out of control, Leena asked carefully, "Did you and Daphne really get a divorce, Wilson?"

"Yes," Wilson replied in the middle of a tense standoff with Daphne. "Don't you dislike her a lot? That's great. I dislike her now too."

"You like this woman now?" Leena stared at Yvonne disdainfully. "She's even worse than Daphne…"

At least Daphne was easy to manipulate.

"Mom, I hope you don't say anything like that in the future. Yvonne is… different."

Wilson then helped Yvonne up. "I'm being serious this time."

"He's serious this time? Does it mean he wasn't serious about us before?" Daphne thought.

Only then did she realize how hurtful a ruthless man's words could be. Luckily, she had already died once, so she no longer expected anything from Wilson.

Thus, she calmly said, "Take your nonsense and leave, Wilson, or she'll really end up with a scar on her face."

"I told you, you have to apologize to Yvonne," Wilson threatened in a low voice as he glared at Daphne.

She tilted her head up, met his eyes, and walked toward him. Then, she uttered, "In your dreams!"

If Wilson didn't believe her, she didn't care enough to explain any further. If he wanted the wedding ring back, she'd just give it to him—no fuss.

But apologizing to Yvonne would feel like stomping on her own pride.

Just then, Yvonne tugged Wilson's sleeve lightly. "It's okay, Mr. Farrell. I don't need an apology from Ms. Yeager. She must've been very angry at me just now…"

Wilson was already livid, and Yvonne's plea only made things worse.

Instantly, he strode toward Hugo with a smirk and glanced at him condescendingly. "There are a lot of media projects that need investments in your company, right? I'll invest in them as long as you ban Ava from receiving any jobs."

Daphne was like a pest to him. She knew exactly how to get under one's skin, and she could thrive no matter the circumstances too.

Wilson knew her all too well.

She would never compromise if it was for her benefit. However, when it came to the people she cared about, she'd go all the way for them. Hence, it was far better to ruin her manager's career than to ruin hers.

That way, Daphne would apologize to Yvonne.

Wilson was very confident about it.

Hugo wasn't as righteous as Ava. He pondered for a moment and squeezed out a greasy grin.

"Ava's indeed not great at managing people. Just look at how arrogant her artists have become! I've been wanting to fire her for a while now. Rest assured, Mr. Farrell. I'm on the same page as you."

What a heartless boss. He insulted two people at the same time.

Daphne clenched her fists and shot Hugo a look. She had brought so much profit to the company. Ava, too, had nurtured multiple A-list celebrities.

Hugo's effort was nothing compared to them. If it weren't for Ava, Daphne would have left the company already.
