Rekindling Her Affection
Chapter 1
Sabrina Wyatt immediately saw Nelson Tucker, with his lover by his side, chatting with auction attendees at the entrance of the jewelry auction in the arts district.
Nelson's lover was a rare gem, looking gorgeous and as pure as the moon. Although Sabrina had long been aware of Nelson's sophisticated taste, she was taken aback by the beautiful woman he picked.
After staring at him for a bit, her eyes grew dry. Her friend, Abigail Lynch, felt bad for her. Holding her arm, Abigail suggested, "How about you stay out of the auction? I'll bid for you."
Sabrina flashed a faint smile at her friend. Running into her husband getting lovey-dovey with his mistress, Pamela Dixon, was not really a big deal.
Nelson didn't show any hint of embarrassment when he ran into her, anyway. In fact, he merely glanced at her coldly as though she was a stranger.
Sabrina entered the auction venue with Abigail and took her seat. Coincidentally, Nelson was seated in the row right in front of her. She saw Pamela resting her head on his shoulder.
However, Sabrina's attention wasn't on the couple. She was at the auction to bid for a brooch, which she had checked out twice during the preview, to give to her mom as a gift.
The old-fashioned brooch was composed of two overlapping feather shapes—one big and one small. The feathers were made of golden diamond and turquoise respectively, looking clean, and simple, yet breathtaking.
After a few rounds of bidding, the rich wives at the auction didn't continue bidding against Sabrina after noticing her deep desire for the brooch, in an act of courtesy toward the young CEO of Breeze Group.
Just when the auctioneer was about to sell the brooch to Sabrina at 6.2 million dollars, Pamela, still resting her head on Nelson's shoulders, raised her paddle.
Sabrina furrowed her brows at Pamela's sudden action. Abigail, who could not stand Pamela, defiantly raised her paddle. The two women entered a bidding war until the bidding price stood at nine million dollars.
Every time Abigail raised her paddle, Pamela would follow suit. Sabrina lowered her gaze and texted Nelson on WhatsApp. "I want that brooch."
She watched as he checked his phone before putting it back into his jacket, but he didn't stop Pamela from bidding. Inhaling sharply, she wrote to him, "The brooch means a lot to me."
She sent the text, but Nelson didn't check his phone. Her hope dwindled as she waited for his reply.
She had been married to him for three years at this time. A week after registering their marriage, Nelson went abroad and only visited home a few times per year. During each of his visits, she seemed to be the last one notified.
Today was one of those occurrences. Had she not bumped into him at the auction, she would have thought he was still abroad.
She chided herself. How could she expect a deadbeat husband to help her out?
Laughing at herself, she texted another contact on WhatsApp. Soon, Nelson got up to answer a call. When he returned, he was shooting daggers at her.
She ignored his death glares, as she wanted the brooch—once her father's possession. She had no choice but to call her mother-in-law, Shannon Hart, to pressure Nelson into giving up the brooch.
Unfortunately, things didn't unfold as Sabrina wanted. After Nelson settled in his seat, Pamela immediately put in a 20-million-dollar bid.
Incensed, Abigail tried to outbid Pamela, only to be stopped by Sabrina. In Slitton, no one could outbid Nelson Tucker.
Although Pamela was accustomed to Nelson's indifference, her heart still ached.
…
After the auction, Sabrina went over to Nelson. In a humbling manner, she pleaded, "Please give me the brooch. I'm willing to buy it at double the bidding price."
Nelson, who towered over her, stared down at her coldly. She was one-of-a-kind—a smooth-skinned and long-haired beauty. She looked up with puppy eyes, an expression that would melt hearts.
Three years ago, she had used her innocent puppy eyes on her parents, begging them, "Can I have Nelson Tucker?"
The look in Nelson's eyes hardened. "You should only pull off that trick once."
Her face paled. Did Nelson seriously think that she was trying to steal the brooch from Pamela in the same way she stole him from Pamela three years ago?
"You misunderstood—"
However, Nelson couldn't be bothered listening to her explanation. He received the brooch in a box from the auction host and left.
Panicking, she grabbed his arm. "The brooch belonged to my dad—"
He stared at her fingers on his arm with a look of utter resentment. "Let go of me!"
His gaze reminded her of the day they registered their marriage. She swirled thrice in happiness after receiving the marriage certificate.
With the same hateful look in his eyes, he snapped at her, "You're not getting anything else from me aside from the marriage certificate!"
And he had kept his word.
She was ready to let him go, but she couldn't move past the loss of the brooch she had painstakingly searched for. At the very least, she wanted to offer her mom a sentimental keepsake.
Suppressing her emotions, she pleaded, "Please, Nelson. I'm begging you…"
He pulled his arm free from her grasp. "I begged you in the same way before, Ms. Wyatt. Didn't I?"
Chapter 2
Ms. Wyatt?
After three years of marriage, Nelson stubbornly refused to acknowledge Sabrina as his wife.
Reading the spite in Nelson's eyes, Sabrina realized that he would never offer her the brooch no matter what she did or said.
Disappointed, she wracked her brains for a way to get the brooch from him.
…
On Sabrina's way home, she saw a digital ad playing the news on the opposite building when her car stopped by the intersection. The headlines read: "Nelson Tucker Snags Priceless Brooch Gifted by Daniel Livingston to His Wife—Rumors Swirl He's Popping the Question to Girlfriend Pamela Dixon!"
From the corner of her eye, she saw the gorgeous Pamela on the news, hugging Nelson tightly with a bright, youthful smile.
Sabrina watched as her husband bent over slightly and rested a hand on Pamela's back with a tender look and a soft smile.
She had never seen this tender side of the usually stoic and unfeeling Nelson. Staring blankly at her supposed lover—the handsome man on the screen—she realized that he had bidded the brooch to propose to Pamela.
The brooch that Sabrina's dad, Samson Wyatt, gifted to her mom, Cheryl Jenkins, was now used by Nelson to propose to his mistress.
She thought, "Wow, Sabrina Wyatt, you're a joke!"
Blinking softly, she wiped away her tears and dialed Nelson's number.
As expected, he snapped at her in an aloof and impatient tone, "What is it?"
"Nelson, give me the brooch, and I'll agree to a divorce."
He hung up without a word, and she didn't bother calling back, knowing he must have been annoyed with her.
…
Nelson didn't return to the house he shared with Sabrina until noon the next day. Ever since she moved in, she had kept the place well-organized. However, he found the house unfamiliar.
After he stepped foot in the hall, a maid approached him. "Mrs. Tucker spent the whole night waiting for you in the living room. She has just gone up to the second floor."
He replied, "Got it." Then, he instructed the drivers to place his luggage in the living room.
He made his way to the second floor, where he found the guest bedroom's door ajar. Inside, the room was neat and organized.
Sabrina, still in yesterday's clothes, was busy packing books from the shelf into boxes.
She turned around when she heard the movements. Unlike before, she wasn't delighted at his presence. They looked into each other's eyes for a while.
Since Sabrina didn't say a word, Nelson couldn't be bothered to converse with her. He loosened his tie and retreated to his bedroom.
After getting married, they remained nothing more than two strangers under the same roof.
She flashed a self-deprecating smile.
His affair with Pamela got out of hand, tarnishing the Tucker family's reputation. Yet, he felt no obligation to offer her an explanation—she was insignificant to him, the wife he never wanted.
Since the Tucker family was indebted to the Wyatt family, the Tuckers forcefully separated Nelson and Pamela when they learned that Sabrina wanted to marry Nelson.
Sabrina believed that her wretched marriage must have been her retribution for interfering with Nelson's relationship.
Three years ago, Nelson met with her and said, "I have a lover. I know my family owes yours a great deal, but I'd like to make it up to you in other ways."
If she could go back in time, she would agree to his proposal instead of saying, "Nelson, all I want is you."
…
Nelson finally joined Sabrina on the first floor after she packed up everything and instructed the maids to carry the items to her car. Walking around her, he settled on the living room couch. He asked, "Where are you going?"
She glanced at him. He was handsome and poised. She'd even describe him as indescribably attractive. However, she was disrupted by Pamela's scent on him. She responded, "I'll get my attorney to draft the divorce papers."
While smoking, he stared at her. "Are you done?"
Did he think she was making a scene? Was that why he didn't take her suggestion of divorce seriously, thinking it was one of her tricks?
Smiling, she remarked, "I can empathize with your feelings back then. I'm really sorry for that, Mr. Tucker."
His hand paused in the air. Glancing at her, he noticed her misty eyes. He was taken aback by the brokenness that was uncharacteristic of her.
She left before he could read deeper into her emotions.
Chapter 3
Sabrina received a call from Shannon, her mother-in-law, right after she got into the car. Shannon wanted Sabrina at the Tucker manor.
Hanging up, Sabrina stared out of the window. Nelson had changed into a new outfit. He waited by the door, seemingly wanting to visit the Tucker manor with her.
They had always put up a front—one of a loving, married couple—when they were around his family.
Sabrina didn't budge this time. Once she had decided on divorce, she couldn't care less about Nelson's feelings.
After he was done with his cigarette, he impatiently rapped his knuckles on her car window. She replied flatly, "I'll drive there alone."
Nelson retorted, "We can't get my mom worked up."
Shannon had surgery scheduled soon. If Sabrina and Nelson showed up at the Tucker manor separately, Shannon would definitely overthink it.
Sabrina said nothing. Even if Shannon was angry at them, it was all Nelson's fault to begin with. When she was rolling up the car window, Nelson suddenly remarked, "Don't you want your brooch?"
She saw him placing a hand on top of the car in a leisurely yet commanding manner—as if he had control over her.
Pursing her lips, she finally left her car and took his. This was the first time they sat in the same car since their marriage. She had always looked forward to moments like this, but now, she felt nothing.
The driver drove steadily down the road. Sitting close to the car window, Sabrian observed the carefully ironed, wrinkle-free pant sleeves from the corner of her eye.
…
After 20 minutes, they arrived at the Tucker manor. Nelson buttoned his jacket and left the car holding her hand.
Her fingers were trembling. The sight of their intertwined fingers upset her more than the night of waiting for him. Disgusted, she tried to free herself but failed.
Nelson was tacit and emotionless as usual. Although he didn't seem to exert any pressure on her hand, she couldn't break free from his grip.
Laughing from anger, she jeered. "Your parents aren't dumb. They can tell that we're putting on an act. Just give me the brooch, and I'll deal with your parents on your behalf."
He calmly stared at her, refusing to believe that she'd really get a divorce.
However, she took his silence as approval. After all, he wouldn't want to keep his dear Pamela in the dark after proposing to her yesterday.
She decided to let him hold her hand since she couldn't free herself.
Shannon was satisfied to see the couple holding hands as they entered the living room. A thought crossed her mind, and she rolled her eyes at Nelson. She addressed him crossly, "Get your ass up to the second floor. Your dad's waiting for you."
Then, she changed into a friendly demeanor and spoke to Sabrina, "Brina, the internet gossip has crossed a line. I should apologize to you." She appeared really sorry for Sabrina.
Except for Nelson, everyone in the Tucker family was nice to her.
Shannon added, "I know you've been wronged. Just tell me what you want, and I'll teach Nel a lesson!"
Though Sabrina was thankful for Shannon's support, she understood that Shannon's backing would only make Nelson hate her more. Tired of living such a married life, she blurted out, "Shannon, I'd like a divorce."
Shannon expected Sabrina to be enraged about the rumors of Nelson and Pamela, but she didn't expect Sabrina to bring up a divorce.
"Brina, this will be the last time he goes abroad. I will make him break up with that woman. Just stay together, and he'll fall for you one day. It's a pity to give up on the marriage now," Shannon worriedly advised Sabrina.
"It's only sensible to cut my losses on hopeless endeavors. I'll visit you often, even after the divorce."
Shannon was speechless that Sabrina had finally given up. Sabrina hugged her gently and said, "You're the best mother-in-law in the world.
"Because of me, you and Nelson are drifting apart. I'll go upstairs to talk to Jackson. He should stop scolding Nelson."
Shannon accompanied Sabrina to the study. Inside, Jackson was chastising Nelson, "It's already a challenge to take over the responsibilities of Tucker Group after you spent years abroad, away from the crux of power. If news of a divorce leaks—even if your marriage was secret—it will harm your reputation!"
"If you agree to my divorce from Sabrina, I'll willingly give up my share of Tucker Group."
Shannon and Sabrina overheard Nelson's bold statement just as they entered the study.
He seemed deeply in love with Pamela. Once, his family had forced him to choose between his position as heir and Pamela—he had chosen Pamela without hesitation.
Three years later, his determination was unchanged. Besides heartache, Sabrina felt oddly moved by his unwavering resolve.
Shannon, on the other hand, grew furious upon hearing Nelson's declaration. "Nelson Tucker, you would have died if your father-in-law hadn't saved you! How could you say that?"
"Sabrina's dad has nothing to do with my survival…"
Chapter 4
Shannon broke into tears. She couldn't understand why Nelson refused to acknowledge Simon Wyatt's help.
Sabrina didn't want Nelson to blame her for the current mess. She hugged Shannon gently and coaxed her. She whispered something into Shannon's ear, eliciting a laugh from the latter and relieving the tension in the room.
Nelson couldn't help but steal a glance at Sabrina, who was dressed in a grey pantsuit paired with a black cardigan.
She looked dazzling with her gorgeously unique appearance in the chic outfit. The smile on her lips added to her stunning beauty.
The look in his eyes hardened, and he shifted his gaze.
After they descended the stairs, Sabrina calmly told him that they shouldn't have gotten married three years ago. She seemed genuine from the calm look in her eyes.
He wondered, "So, is she serious about the divorce?"
Sensing his gaze, she looked him in the eyes calmly. Unlike before, she didn't blush shyly.
Shannon, who took a liking to Sabrina, held her hand tightly. "After the divorce, why don't you become my daughter? I will never forget the kindness of your family."
Jackson agreed with Shannon, even asking Sabrina what she'd like out of the divorce.
Taken aback by her in-law's suggestion, Sabrina fell silent in embarrassment. Thankfully, her assistant called her, informing her that a situation had arisen in the company.
"Jackson, Shannon, there are some complications at the factory. I need to check it out."
The factory?
"Isn't the factory at the outskirts?" It would take Sabrina two hours by car to arrive at the factory.
Shannon urged Nelson, "Brina doesn't have a driver. As her brother, you should send her to the factory."
Sitting on the couch, Nelson extended his legs. He didn't object to Shannon, but anyone could tell he was against the idea from his demeanor.
However, his indifference didn't bother Sabrina. After all, they were about to get a divorce.
"It's not a big deal. I'll handle it myself." Then, she said goodbye to Shannon.
Shannon kicked her son and warned him, "Nelson Tucker, if you don't behave, we'll kick you out of the family to live with that mistress of yours! Adopting Sabrina is the least we could do."
Nelson approached Sabrina when she was putting on her coat at the entrance. He carried a jacket on his arm.
In the past, she would have been on cloud nine if he made a compromise for her. Alas, his actions were meaningless to her now.
She refused to leave with him, but she needed a driver. Without hesitation, she handed her car keys to him.
They entered the car without talking, the same dynamics when they first arrived at the Tucker manor.
Sabrina spent the two-hour trip talking about work over the phone without a break.
Nelson stole a glance at her. A few strands of hair swept around her temples. From his angle, he admired her straight nose and flaming red lips.
When they arrived at the destination, Sabrina was about to get out when a thought crossed her mind. Placing a hand over her phone, she addressed him, "Hey, thanks. Remember to give me that brooch, brother dearest!"
Nelson scoffed with a sour face. She certainly made the switch with ease in no time. He sat in the car and watched as a crowd formed around her. Then, he lit a cigarette and sent his geolocation to Ronaldo Bailey.
He wanted Ronaldo to pick him up from the outskirts because he refused to wait for Sabrina.
Soon, he received a voice message from Ronaldo. "Nelson, is it true that your wife is now your sister?"
"Who told you so?" Nelson sounded icy.
"Shannon told me! She was thinking of hosting a blind date party for Sabrina at the Tucker manor this coming Saturday, and she asked me to introduce her to some hot and dependable suitors. Nelson, don't you think it's a pity you've never slept with a beauty like Sabrina?"
Nelson gritted his teeth. "And how would you know that?"
Ronaldo responded, "Shannon told me. Are you an idiot, turning your hot wife into your sister? Everyone in our circle is spreading rumors about your alleged problems in bed. Why else would you turn away a hot wife?"
Nelson hung up and sighed.
…
Ronaldo finally arrived two hours later. Nelson had wanted to nap in the car, but the constant flow of traffic in the industrial park was disturbing.
Ronaldo observed the irritable Nelson and fell into deep thoughts. Then, he began, "Nelson, friends in our circle have heard about Sabrina's company scandal, and they're eagerly waiting for her to make a joke of herself. It's a huge issue. Are we going to leave like this?"
Seated in the front passenger seat, Nelson opened his eyes. He retorted coldly, "Are you telling me to help her?"
"The factory technically belongs to the Tucker Group. Besides, Sabrina is now your… sister. Shouldn't we help her out?"
Chapter 5
Sabrina was indeed in a pickle. She made arrangements and communicated with the clients. She appeared surprised when Nelson showed up.
He was attractive, and the dark suit accentuated his muscular build. His jawline was rather tense, and his gaze piercing when he stared at her. That effectively ruined her mood to swoon over him.
Ronaldo jogged over. Seemingly trying to score some points for his friend, he announced, "Sabrina, Nelson is here to help."
Was Nelson there to help?
If he truly intended to help, he would have followed her into the factory from the start. His delay only suggested that he had come to help after being scolded by Shannon.
She didn't want his reluctant help. "I can handle this on my own."
A deep frown appeared on his face after she rejected his offer to help. "This concerns the Tucker Group. You shouldn't throw a tantrum about it."
"Throw a tantrum? Why does he always think I'm up to no good and throwing tantrums?" she mused, seething.
To him, she was probably an unreasonable, cunning woman.
She couldn't be bothered to explain herself and proceeded to leave. Looking upset, Nelson grabbed her wrist and snapped, "What's with that attitude?"
Feeling the pain in her wrist, she tried to withdraw her hand, but he gripped her wrist harder as he glowered at her.
She snorted, "This is the attitude you've been giving me for three years. Why? Do you find it unbearable after experiencing it just once?"
He was caught by surprise.
Sabrina mustered all her energy to break free from his grip. Then, she massaged her reddened wrist and marched into the office, leaving Nelson scowling behind her.
He had never expected such a sharp retort from Sabrina, who loved to stick around him in the past. It was frustrating.
Ronaldo was similarly stunned. He scratched his nose. "Is this the Sabrina I know?"
Before this, she'd always cook Nelson's favorite dishes and waited for him at home when she learned that he was back in the country.
If he didn't come home, she'd look for Ronaldo and say, "Ronaldo, could you bring him the food?"
Sabrina was ingratiating, always looking forward to Nelson getting to know her better. Now, she acted like a different person.
"Nelson, what do we do?" Ronaldo asked.
"This is a child company of the Tucker Group. The problem involves an export order worth one billion dollars," Nelson remarked ambiguously.
He sounded like he wanted to help. To avoid any conflict between the couple, Ronaldo jumped in to mediate. "Sabrina, this is a golden opportunity to spend some quality time with him, so that he gets to know you better."
After replying to work-related texts, Sabrina said to Ronaldo, "Keep that opportunity for someone else."
Gaping, Ronaldo went closer and dialed up his efforts to persuade her, "It's such a pity to leave him when you haven't even slept with him. He's really hot, you know?"
Sabrina nodded in agreement. Abigail had praised Nelson for being hot, which Sabrina didn't deny.
"Ronaldo, would you bite into an apple that was coated in someone else's saliva?" she mused.
Ronaldo fell silent. In other words, she was calling Nelson filthy. He wanted to convince her, but her assistant, Eva Brooks, entered the office at that moment. "Ms. Wyatt, we have borrowed all the resources we could get our hands on. They have gotten to work."
"Cool. I'll take a look." Sabrina left the office. Eva added, "They say that Pamela is here."
Sabrina halted in her tracks and turned around to smile at Ronaldo. "I will definitely take advantage of that golden opportunity if Nelson stays back."
Speechless, Ronaldo was upset at Pamela for causing trouble at this sensitive time.
"I have something important to attend to. Ronaldo will stay back and help," Nelson announced.
Forcing a smile, Sabrina replied, "Sure."
Ronaldo stopped Nelson and hinted at him. Trying to salvage the situation, he said, "Nelson, didn't you say this was the Tucker Group's child company, and the issue concerned a one billion export order? Nothing else is more important and critical than the matter at hand, right?"
Sabrina left before Nelson could reply, as she understood his rationale. She was never important to him; he'd never pick her over anyone, of course.
In fact, she was glad she brushed off Ronaldo's so-called "golden opportunity", or she'd hide in a hole from embarrassment.
Chapter 6
Nelson returned home past midnight. The luggage he brought home remained untouched in a corner of the living room. He thought of Sabrina.
In the past three years, she had always greeted him with an ingratiating smile when he came home from abroad. She was petite and would always huff and puff as she lugged his heavy suitcases to the second floor.
She always looked at him with a mix of joy and bashfulness, which was a stark contrast to her treatment of him on this trip.
He scanned the list of missed calls on his phone—most of them from Ronaldo. Sabrina hadn't called him once.
He called Ronaldo back. It took Ronaldo a while to pick up. "Nel, I'm working overtime."
"Are you working overtime with Sabrina?" Nelson found it hard to believe they'd work late for the pressing issues at the factory, as those problems were easily solvable.
"Yes. I'm still at the industrial park."
Frowning, Nelson grumbled, "Why does it take you forever to get the problem solved? Is Sabrina that incompetent?"
Even Ronaldo felt that Nelson's criticism of Sabrina was unfair. "Well, the manufacturer made a mistake, so we made them reprint the packaging. Worse comes to worse, we'd just switch to another manufacturer.
"This was a premeditated, sabotaging act to prevent us from exporting our first order. We would have been driven mad if it weren't for Sabrina's leadership."
Every year, Slitton would export two billion dollars worth of traditional preserved fruits to Javerston and Koranthia. This year, one of the Tucker Group's trade companies won a one billion dollar order.
Today, the company needed to export its first batch of orders. Yet, a hundred thousand packets of the preserved fruits had packaging that failed to meet the standards. The designer went missing, and the manufacturer shrugged off the responsibility.
As other companies didn't have enough materials to produce the packaging in a short timeframe, the exporting company had no way of replacing the wrong packaging.
When Nelson arrived at the industrial park, Ronaldo immediately lamented and complained to him, "Nel, can you imagine this? All the workers in the industrial park are working overtime to put the labels on a hundred thousand pieces of packaging. I've never endured such torture in my life!"
Nelson searched high and low, his lips pursed. Finally, he saw Sabrina, who had just changed out of her protective gear.
She stood at the door of the brightly-lit clean room, her face illuminated by the lights. He could spot her from afar.
She had a nice jawline, and her bare face was smooth and silky. As it was chilly at night, she wrapped herself in a grey wool blanket, yet she managed to look dazzling.
She was speaking to the general manager. The man in his forties towered over her, yet he had full respect for the young lady.
"Nel, Sabrina has only reached such heights because of Jackson and Shannon's help. Isn't that so?" teased Ronaldo, subtly reminding Nelson of his ignorance and prejudice toward Sabrina.
…
Sabrina walked past Nelson, pretending not to see him. She wasn't acting out, though. After staying up all night, she was completely exhausted.
"I made a wrong judgment today. I'm sorry," he said.
Taken aback by his unexpected apology, she tilted her head and stared at him.
"I heard from Ronaldo about your efforts today. You saved the company from a disaster."
Printing out the labels and manually sticking them onto the packaging might be a manual and tedious method, but it was the only feasible solution.
She demonstrated her wisdom and problem-solving abilities by remaining calm and making swift decisions.
For the first time, she saw acknowledgment and praise in his eyes, replacing the usual disdain. Choking up, she realized that she had finally encountered his gentle side on the eve of their divorce.
Looking away, she mumbled, "It's my job. I'm not getting paid to do nothing."
They sank into a silence. He watched as the night breeze lifted her strands of hair. Feeling cold, she huddled under the blanket.
He added, "I don't know you well, but I can tell you're a great person because my parents love you.
"But I have another woman I love. I promised her I'd marry her, and I will not go back on my words. I'll protect you as a brother figure if you ever run into trouble."
He stood in the wind. She picked up Pamela's signature scent from the night breeze, which sent a stabbing pain across her body.
Tearing up, she said between sobs, "I wish… you and Pamela nothing but the best."
Chapter 7
In the end, Sabrina couldn't push herself to address Nelson as her brother, as she was deeply in love with him as a woman.
She was infatuated with him to the point that she'd brush off his cold shoulder treatment. She was happy as long as she was with him.
Too bad he wasn't into her, refusing to give her a chance of getting to know her, all because of his affection for another woman.
Putting that aside, Sabrina respected Nelson for staying loyal to one woman in his quick-paced life. She secretly patted herself on the back for her great taste in men.
Hence, she willingly ceded.
Nelson had told her to pick up the brooch at any time, or he could deliver it to her. She had never felt so relaxed when she agreed to it.
She believed she was worthy of love. One day, someone would treasure her.
…
Shannon was incensed when she heard that Pamela distracted Nelson at a critical time.
"That woman is not even half as good as Brina. Why is Nelson head over heels for her? I need to create a chance for Brina and Nelson to get to know each other. A beauty with a good personality like Brina is definitely Nelson's type."
"Mom, stop fretting about it. I had a talk with Sabrina." Nelson led the exhausted Ronaldo into the house. He was speechless at his parents, who stayed up until 3:00 am.
"What did you talk about?"
"We'll get a divorce after I overcome my jetlag." Nelson unbuttoned his collar and sat on the couch.
Shannon gasped in disbelief, "Did Brina agree to it?"
"Yeah. I sent her home just now, and she gave me her blessing. Just as you hoped, she and I will be siblings from now on."
Shannon was surprised to learn that the couple had talked it out.
"You married and set aside a lovely young lady for three years. Now, you're getting a divorce. Nelson Tucker, won't you regret this?"
"Not at all."
Dumbstruck, Shannon dragged Jackson to the second floor while scolding Nelson, "How could he give up on a nice woman like Brina for that good-for-nothing? His eyesight is fine now, but something's wrong with his brain. What a heartless bastard!"
…
As Sabrina had worked overnight for two days in a row, she went to sleep and woke up in the late afternoon.
Smelling the food, she left her bedroom and found her friend Abigail making soup. Leaning against the kitchen wall, Sabrina said with a smile, "Hey there, Cinderella."
"Dear princess, would you like to eat now?"
Feeling hungry, Sabrina quickly washed up and dined at the dining table. She asked Abigail, "I thought you went to Southerby with the crew to film."
"Shannon made me look after you because she was worried." Abigail served the soup. "Are you really going to divorce Nelson?"
"Yeah."
"Is this the outcome you wanted after waiting for six years?" Abigail felt indignant. "He would have been dead years ago if you hadn't saved him!"
Noticing Abigail's aggravation, Sabrina replied, "I'm tired. Honestly, I feel quite touched at his loyalty toward Pamela; he chose her without hesitation."
"Touched? What about you? You were so young when you… Will you really get over this?"
Blinking, Sabrina mumbled, "Well, I'll miss Shannon."
Abigail broke into a chuckle. "A divorce isn't too bad. There are better guys than Nelson in Slitton. Why don't you have some fun with me tonight? I'll find you some hot guys."
"Sure. I want some good-looking ones," Sabrina boldly stated.
Right after that, she received Shannon's call inviting her to dinner at the Tucker manor, where they would discuss the division of assets in the divorce.
Sabrina brought Shannon's favorite desserts and showed up at the Tucker manor. There was an attorney in the living room apart from her in-laws.
Shannon said to Sabrina, "Brina, get that rascal down here."
Sabrina went upstairs and knocked on Nelson's door, waiting for a response that never came. She opened the door to his bedroom, only to find it empty. Just as she was about to head to the study, she heard movement behind her.
Turning around, she saw him stepping out of the bathroom. His once neat hairstyle was now tousled, with water droplets trickling down his muscular frame and lower abdomen.
Chapter 8
Sabrina had always been aware that Nelson had a hot body. He looked slim in any clothes, yet he was muscular. She marveled at his tiny waist.
Her heart raced when she met his post-shower gaze. She felt a little remorse for not having slept with such a handsome stud.
Looking away shyly because she didn't want to be perceived as a pervert, she announced, "Your mom is looking for you."
She was about to leave when he stopped her in a deep, emotionless voice. "Wait."
As his footsteps neared, she stiffened at the thought of his nudity. He spotted the blush on her ears and nape from behind, her pale skin glowing with a rosy, alluring complexion.
"Have you never seen a naked man?" He walked around her and stood in front of her.
Blushing, she glared at him vigilantly. "What… What are you doing?"
He stared at her in silence, confusing her. Touching her face, she wondered if there was something on her face.
"Nothing. I'll join you downstairs soon."
She was speechless and perplexed by his unexplained behavior. Was it to show off his hot body?
Anyway, she noticed that they got along better once they decided to be siblings.
…
Sabrina went to the first floor. Shannon, clasping her hand, said, "Brina, we're not destined to be mother and daughter-in-law, but don't worry. I will treat you well. You will receive half of the assets, properties, and stocks under Nelson's name."
Stunned, Sabrina responded, "Shannon, n-no—"
Shannon started persuading her, "Men will not thank you for demanding nothing out of the divorce. They'll just think you're dumb. Don't be blinded by love!"
Sabrina was speechless. Nelson, who had descended the stairs, looked equally baffled.
Shannon added, "Besides, no amount of money can make up for what we owe your family."
Years ago, Jackson and Nelson were saved by Samson, who happened to pass by when they encountered trouble. Samson unknowingly got himself into trouble due to his selfless act and died in a fire.
It was Samson who saved the Tucker father and son, yet Nelson always insisted that he was saved by a woman.
The thought irked Shannon, who went further to suggest, "Since Nelson committed infidelity, he should transfer 100% of his assets to you."
Sabrina whispered, "Shannon, he's your son."
"I wouldn't have given birth to him if I had known he'd be this dumb!"
Sabrina scratched her nose and peeked at Nelson, who shot her a cold and threatening glance. Well, she didn't ask for his assets. It was Shannon who insisted on giving out everything!
Sabrina finally said, "My dad saved lives out of the kindness of his heart. He'd have done so for anyone. I think you have paid back what you owed my family."
Samson was a talented jewelry designer who ran his design company. After his sudden death, the company experienced some internal strife as people wanted a share of it.
In the end, Jackson acquired the now-worthless company, merging it with the Tucker Group until Sabrina was old enough to own it. Jackson handed the company into her hands two months ago.
Shannon, however, thought the company was not enough. She finally decided to transfer the trading company in the industrial park and a business street in Slitton's prime land to Sabrina.
Jackson was equally generous by transferring 3% of the Tucker Group shares to her.
Sabrina came out of the divorce as a millionaire.
Shannon immediately ordered their attorney to work on the divorce agreement. When she turned around, she found Nelson staring at Sabrina.
She kicked him. "Hey, do you agree with the terms?"
Nelson leisurely draped his arms by the sides of the couch. "It's your wealth. It's none of my business."
Satisfied with his reply, Shannon sent Sabrina to fetch the jewelry box from her room. After Sabrina left, Shannon taunted Nelson, "Isn't she lovely? It's not too late to take it back."
"Why would I? I was staring at her because I noticed she had a mole on the tip of her nose."
"And was that the only reason you couldn't look away from her? Pfft. Stop lying." She knew her son better than anyone else.
Chapter 9
Sabrina was good-looking. Her gossamery long hair scattered behind her back. She had a fair complexion and exquisite features.
Sitting in the front passenger seat of Nelson's car, she dabbed some foundation on the mole on her nose tip to hide it. Then, she put on some red lipstick, which added to her radiance.
He stole a look at her. "Why would you cover it up?"
It took her a while to realize he was talking about the mole.
"It makes me look silly."
He understood what she meant. She was a 26-year-old CEO who should present herself in a respectable way. The mole on her nose tip made her look innocent yet seductive—everything but authoritative.
Nelson shifted his focus back on driving. Sabrina looked out of the window without bothering to initiate a conversation. They sat in comfortable silence throughout the trip.
Still, she felt uneasy having Nelson drive her to a blind date.
Before dinner, she was cooking in the Tucker manor's kitchen when she received a call from Abigail. Shannon answered the call and put it on speaker mode.
Abigail announced, "Hey, Princess, I invited a bunch of young, hot studs to Club Felicity. They're obedient and handsome, best for young sugar mommies like you…"
Sabrina froze in shock, while the Tucker family maids were in panic and disbelief.
Shannon was the first to speak. "Okay, Abby. I'll make Nelson drive Brina to the club after dinner."
As Sabrina's car was at the industrial park, Shannon asked Nelson over dinner to drop Sabrina at the club, and he readily agreed to it.
Although Sabrina had agreed to the divorce, she needed time to get over Nelson, whom she had loved for a long time. His indifference to her blind dates pained her heart.
…
Sabrina politely bid goodbye to Nelson at Club Felicity. He gave her a nod and left in satisfaction at the state of their relationship. He even grew fonder of her after she ceased to pester him.
Ten minutes later, Nelson tapped into the photo that Ronaldo texted him. It was a photo of Sabrina in an open-back sweater, speaking on the phone in the corridor.
The dark gray sweater might look basic from the front, but it was open back starting from the shoulder blades all the way to the ribbon on her waist.
Her long blond hair swayed behind her back, forming a striking contrast with her sweater, but it all matched well. Her attire was a little suggestive.
He finally realized why she'd put on a jacket at dinner. It turned out that she wanted to keep on the act of a prim and proper daughter-in-law in front of Shannon.
…
Sitting on the couch in the private lounge, Sabrina frowned at the row of hot guys in front of her.
"Are you unsatisfied with all of them?"
"They're pretty, but I don't like pretty men."
Abigail slouched on the couch and stared at her friend. "Well, they certainly can't be compared to that Mr. McDreamy at your home."
Nelson was a remarkable man inside and out. His poise and manners outshone his good looks.
Sabrina, having picked Nelson as her husband, would never be satisfied with anyone else. She flipped through the resumes in her grasp and handed four of them to Abigail, saying, "You are so picky in selecting artists for your studio. It feels like you're choosing your concubines."
"I reserved that privilege for you. Nelson has never satisfied you in three years, right? I'll let you have a taste of power here."
They did not spot Ronaldo, who had been standing by the door for a while. After Nelson stormed away angrily, Ronaldo entered the private lounge and interrupted the girls' night. "Sabrina, Nelson is looking for you."
Surprised, Sabrina gasped, "I thought he went home."
Chapter 10
Sabrina instantly spotted Nelson at the center of the crowd-filled, dimly-lit room—the largest private lounge in Club Felicity—but it wasn't because of his outstanding looks.
Every man in sight had a woman with them. Nelson was the only one who sat alone with a cigarette in his hand. Obscured by the cigarette smoke, he looked detached and aloof.
Any wife would have felt proud of her husband if he stayed away from women like Nelson. However, she found herself feeling envious of other women because Nelson was sexually healthy yet refused to sleep with her.
At that moment, she envied Pamela deeply.
Meanwhile, Nelson immediately spotted Sabrina by her tiny waist as she walked in. She was dressed in a grey sweater paired with black high-waisted flared pants, further accentuating her slim waist.
"Ms. Wyatt, I could lift you up by your waist," someone teased Sabrina in the crowded lounge, even whistling at her.
She glanced at the man. "Why don't you give it a try later? I hope you could really lift me like you claimed."
While she was speaking, Nelson rose from the couch and approached her. She picked up a mix of woody scent and cigarettes from his body, and she followed him out of the lounge.
Since they stood next to each other, he cast a shadow over her. Feeling uneasy, she tried to take a step backward when he spoke, "Behave yourself. We haven't signed the divorce papers yet."
Staring at his icy eyes, she knew he must have misunderstood the situation in her private lounge. She brushed off the thought of explaining it to him, as it was pointless, especially after they had agreed on the division of assets.
Still, she found him hypocritical. Did he behave himself when he was with Pamela?
However, she held her tongue, as the brooch still remained in his possession. Although he verbally agreed to give it to her, she didn't want to upset him out of fear he might delay handing it over.
"Sure. I won't give you any trouble," she agreed obediently.
He lowered his gaze and observed the light makeup on her face—gorgeous, but not gaudy.
In the past, she was ingratiating. Yesterday, she was argumentative and aggressive. Today, she acted overly deferential. Confused, he wondered which was her true self.
"Are you leaving?" asked Sabrina. "I'll stay for half an hour more. How does that sound?"
She thought she was being courteous for keeping up the act, even when they were on the brink of a divorce.
Hearing that, Nelson shot her a frosty look before wandering back to his lounge.
"What a difficult man", she thought. "He couldn't even be nice to me after I willingly cooperated with him."
When she headed back to her private lounge, she had a talk with Abigail in the quietest corner of the room. When she noticed Abigail acting absentmindedly, she looked in the same direction as Abigail.
There, she found Nelson smoking. The glow of the cigarette flickered between his fingers. His side profile looked perfect from her angle. His sharp jawline added to his sexual appeal.
"He's so… slutty!" Abigail remarked. "Sleep with him, or you'll miss out."
Someone happened to turn off the music at that moment, and everyone overheard Abigail's comment. They turned to the two ladies with knowing looks, and things grew really awkward for a while.
Apart from Ronaldo and a few others, no one there was aware of the secret marriage between Sabrina and Nelson.
Gerald Ingram, the scion who boasted about lifting Sabrina by her waist, playfully teased, "Ms. Wyatt, who would you like to sleep with?"
"Get lost, Gerald. This is none of your business."
Gerald was clearly upset after Ronaldo chided him. "Ronaldo, what's that for? Can't we admire Ms. Wyatt's beauty?" Then, he winked at Sabrina in an embarrassingly shameless display. "I'm very well-behaved."
"Gerald, guess who Ms. Wyatt is interested in?"
As Sabrina was pretty and active in the business world, she was a famous figure in Slitton's social circles. Everyone in the lounge was acquainted in one way or another, but Nelson was an exception as he had just returned from abroad.
Everyone turned to Sabrina, who tried to explain herself, but Ronaldo quickly pulled her closer to Nelson.
In the middle of the gasps and excited shouts, Nelson responded in a deep voice, "Keep it down. She's my sister."
