My Wife, The Ghost Whisperer

Chapter 1

It was 8:00 am. The sky was dark and heavy with clouds, a sign that a heavy downpour was about to occur.

"Mr. Fowler, bring me my identification documents. I'm going to marry a man today."

Clara Fowler's words stunned her mentor, Mark Fowler, who was in the midst of practicing Aikido.

He turned to look at Clara. She was an abandoned baby he had found while globetrotting. Back then, Clara was on the verge of starving to death. Her skin was filled with red bumps, courtesy of the red ants crawling all over her.

Back then, Mark felt that fate must have brought him and baby Clara together, so he scooped her up and brought her back to Nameless Mountain, where he had been recuperating. He took great care of Clara, and just like that, baby Clara gradually grew up.

When Clara learned how to talk and walk, Mark discovered her peculiarities.

Clara often spoke to the air. Whenever Mark asked her why she did that, she told him she was talking to other children. She even described the features of those said children.

Mark knew a thing or two about mystic arts. He knew right away that the "children" Clara saw were ghosts.

Since Clara didn't seem afraid of them and didn't fall sick, Mark decided to let Clara continue talking and playing with the ghost children. After all, life in the mountains could get boring at times.

He initially thought Clara wouldn't be able to see any ghosts once she got older.

Little did he know that Clara could see ghosts all the time. It didn't matter how old she was or when she saw them—there were even times when she could see them in broad daylight.

It appeared that Clara was blessed with spectral vision. Not only that, but Mark also found out later on that Clara's supernatural foresight was extraordinarily powerful.

Thankfully, Mark and Clara were the only ones living in the mountains. Occasionally, visitors made the trip to the summit just to visit them. During those times, Mark would remind Clara not to bring up whatever she saw to avoid scaring their visitors.

"Clara, you don't even have a boyfriend! How can you marry a man?"

After snapping out of his trance, Mark quickly questioned Clara, "Did you predict something? Or did you see something?"

Clara explained, "Five minutes ago, I suddenly saw myself with a tall man in a black suit going through the marriage registration procedures in City Hall.

"Mr. Fowler, please bring me my documents. I'm going to head down the mountain. I'm sure I'll meet that stranger soon and marry him."

Her supernatural foresight was extremely powerful. The events she foresaw would definitely happen. No one could change the trajectory or the ending. She tried to change the outcome in the past, only to fail miserably.

Since then, Clara had been following fate's arrangements. She no longer tried to change them.

"Stranger?" Mark's expression changed drastically.

He gazed at his student, noting her delicate and beautiful features. Clara was a natural beauty with a pair of enchanting eyes. But sometimes, she could easily frighten others if her gaze were to turn sharp and cold.

Clara was 25 years old. After she graduated from college, she opted to return to Nameless Mountain instead of finding a job in the city.

Nameless Mountain was a place with vibrant greenery and a tranquil atmosphere. It was a great place for one to temper themselves and hone their traits.

The village located at the base of the mountain was developing quite well. Concrete roads were paved throughout the village. Every family had their own car, making it very convenient for them to travel anywhere they wanted.

No one disrupted Mark and Clara, who lived on the summit. Mark was a fortune teller with half-baked abilities. Coupled with Clara's powerful abilities, they resolved some of the biggest problems the villagers faced in the past, earning everyone's respect and admiration.

Mark had been living in the mountains for the past 30 years. Everyone in the village knew him as a secluded old man with insanely powerful abilities. Since he protected the village, it was only natural for the villagers to take care of him and Clara. Of course, they wouldn't destroy the environment of Nameless Mountain, either.

Clara's only two friends knew about her unique abilities. Both friends had jobs in Donford City. They often kept in touch via their phones. Occasionally, Clara would drive into the city to attend gatherings with her friends.

But she never had a boyfriend before.

Clara told Mark that all the young men she met weren't destined to be her future husband. Since that was the case, why would she waste time and effort starting a romantic relationship with them? It would be a waste of time.

That was why her sudden declaration to marry a stranger scared the shit out of Mark earlier.

"Mr. Fowler, I don't have a boyfriend. I'm only getting married today because it'll be a whirlwind marriage."

Mark was dumbfounded. "Clara, is it possible for you to change the outcome?"

He was indeed worried about Clara's marriage prospects, seeing as she was a single 25-year-old woman. But that didn't mean she could just get into a whirlwind marriage!

"Nope."

"Well, what does he look like?"

Mark knew very well that the scenes witnessed by Clara via her supernatural foresight would occur on the same day. That was God's arrangement, after all. Both mentor and student didn't have the capability to go against God's arrangements and rewrite their destinies.

Even though Clara was blessed with spectral vision and supernatural foresight, she was no master of the mystic arts. Although she might have grown up interacting with ghosts, she didn't know how to exorcise them or run a fortune-telling business.

Clara loved spending her days in the mountains writing webnovels. The money she earned from publishing those webnovels would net her at least a few thousand dollars. She'd plant flowers, vegetables, and fruits in her spare time. Thanks to her efforts, the garden outside their cottage was extremely beautiful.

Mark had complained about Clara's low income. He wanted her to find a job in the city.

Clara rebuked him, saying that she couldn't work at any company with souls with unfinished businesses. They made the environment unbearable for her, so she tended to leave those companies quickly.

After switching several companies, Clara decided to give up on working in a corporate setting. That was when she decided to return to the mountains and keep Mark company. Her job as a webnovel writer was just a side gig which could net her enough money to cover her expenses.

Occasionally, Clara would follow Mark into the village and help resolve the villagers' problems. In return, she got to earn some extra income. Both Fowlers had been living in the mountains this whole time without having to worry about food and other basic necessities. Life was great for them as long as they had some savings.

Since Mark and Clara weren't destined to be rich, they wouldn't give up everything just to seek fortune. But if they were bound to get rich in the future, all they had to do was wait for the opportunity to come. As long as they used the opportunity well, a life of riches awaited them.

"I don't know what he looks like."

Mark fell silent at the answer.

Whenever Clara's supernatural foresight was activated, she only got to watch a scene that lasted for a few seconds. After that, the scene would end.

Most of the time, Clara had to search for clues and go through the trial-and-error process after she received hints from her supernatural foresight. Unfortunately, she wasn't the type who could see into the future and get all the answers she wanted.

Ten minutes later, Mark brought Clara her identification documents. "If that man's rotten on the inside, you should get a divorce with him as soon as you find out."

Clara replied, "I'll need to spend some time with him to discover his true nature. I won't hesitate to divorce him if he really is a bad apple."

After Clara received the documents, she stuffed them into her handbag, along with her phone and a few hundred dollars worth of cash.

"I'm heading down the mountains now, Mr. Fowler."

"Alright. Come home soon."

"Okay."

Clara walked to the courtyard and opened the wooden gate. Since the fence was made of logs, it was only natural that the gate be made of wood.

Once Clara left the cottage, Mark tried to read Clara's fortune. Yet, he couldn't yield any results.

Clara's lifestream was a blur. Whenever Mark tried to go through her lifestream, he'd always come up with nothing.

Perhaps his skill level was too low.

Mark did consider taking Clara to seek out the masters of the mystic arts and have them examine her lifestream. But he was also worried about others discovering Clara's unique abilities, which might lead to them manipulating her into committing misdeeds.

In the end, he gave up on that idea.

Clara told him before that humans were meant to live their lives one step at a time. Why bother finding out about how their lives would progress?

So what if they knew what would happen in their lives? Could a human being truly rewrite their destiny and go against God?

Once a person was born, all challenges in his life were already set in stone. He might as well go along with the flow and accept the outcome.

Every life was filled with ups and downs. No one could lead a life filled with only happiness and glory.

Chapter 2

"Clara, I hope your whirlwind marriage can lead to a wonderful marriage," Mark muttered as he gazed at the distant mountains.

After Clara left the mountain, she immediately headed to the house closest to its base and rang the doorbell outside.

It was a self-built three-story house. The exterior was furnished luxuriously. There was even a large courtyard before the house. The ground in the courtyard was already covered in cement. During the harvest season, the owners would set the grains and peanuts out to dry.

A garage was built on the right side of the house. The house owners' car was usually parked there.

It was September at the moment, meaning it wasn't the harvest season yet. Since there was plenty of space in the courtyard, it was primarily used to park cars.

Three cars were parked in the courtyard at the moment. The white one among them is Clara's.

The path snaking up Nameless Mountain was extremely narrow. One could only hike up the mountain in order to reach the summit. No vehicle could possibly take the path. Unfortunately, a large amount of money was required to build a proper road up the mountain. Both Mark and Clara didn't have that amount of money.

That was why their cars were parked in this particular house's courtyard most of the time. Every month, they'd pay the house owners a small parking fare.

A woman in her 50s walked out of the house the moment she heard the doorbell. Upon noticing Clara, she smiled immediately.

"Are you going out, Clara?"

"Yup. I'm heading into the city to run some errands."

Mark was the only one who knew about the whirlwind marriage.

The woman opened the courtyard's gate with a smile. "If you left the mountain earlier, you might've been able to leave with Evelyn. She came home last night, so she had to leave the house early in the morning for work."

Clara and Evelyn Caddel grew up together. They were old acquaintances and even studied together in the past, but they weren't exactly best friends simply because they didn't spend enough time together.

Clara and Evelyn were pretty neutral toward each other. When Evelyn got into trouble and asked Clara for help, Clara did all she could to help her, and Evelyn did the same for Clara.

But when all was well in their lives, they didn't bother keeping in touch. They didn't even text each other on WhatsApp.

"You didn't tell me about her return, Aunt Lilia. Had I known she returned last night, I'd come here to have a drink or two with her."

Clara loved drinking. She had a lousy alcohol tolerance, but she still loved drinking.

She liked having a drink or two. However, her maximum capacity was two glasses. If she downed the third glass, she'd be wasted.

Clara walked into the Caddel family's courtyard, intending to get into her car and drive away. That was when she saw a ghost exiting the house.

The ghost was Diana Wemberly, Evelyn's grandmother. She had just passed away one month ago.

Clara was already used to seeing ghosts, so she wasn't afraid when she saw Diana. She said to Diana, "Don't worry, your family's doing very well."

Lilia Jones thought Clara was talking to her, so she smiled happily. "Yeah. Everyone's doing very well for themselves. I'm not worried at all."

But her smile dissipated as soon as she remembered Evelyn, who was the same age as Clara, was still single.

"My only worry is that both Peter and Evelyn refuse to marry. Goodness, I don't know what to do. Peter's 29 years old this year, and yet he doesn't even want to find himself a girlfriend. Evelyn's your age, Clara, but she's not interested in dating either."

Clara listened to Lilia's complaints as she got into the car. She buckled her seatbelt while consoling Lilia.

"One's romantic life will unfold according to God's will. If both Peter and Evelyn refuse to marry, that's because their time has yet to come. There's no use worrying about it."

Lilia could only sigh when she heard Clara's explanation.

"I'll have to visit your mentor in the mountains one of these days and have him predict the future."

Clara just smiled. "I'm going to leave now, Aunt Lilia. Goodbye."

She waved goodbye to Lilia before turning to look at Diana. Then, she waved at Diana too. Diana just flashed her a kind smile before waving back.

Diana had been dead for a month. She'd occasionally visit home out of longing for her own family. After all, she did just die recently.

Sometime later, it'd be difficult for Diana to return home unless her family constantly thought about her.

Clara drove out of the Caddels' courtyard. Lilia went to close the gate before returning to the house. However, she stopped after a few steps.

She looked at the front door while muttering to herself, "Clara was waving at the front door just now. Who was she saying goodbye to?"

Lilia was very sure that she was the only person at home.

"Maybe she did it on a whim," she concluded.

After that, Lilia entered the house. Diana followed her into the house as well.

Once Diana was inside the living room, she moved to turn on the television. Unfortunately, her spirit was dematerialized, seeing as she was dead. Without a physical body, she couldn't turn on the television at all. She could only place her hopes on Lilia.

Since Lilia entered the kitchen, Diana followed her there as well. Lilia didn't turn on the television, so Diana might as well follow her around out of boredom.

Lilia felt that her surroundings were quite chilly ever since Clara left.

Clara didn't know that Diana was haunting Lilia. She left the village and drove through a town before getting onto a road leading to Donford City.

Soon, she made a turn at a junction. Minutes later, she cruised onto the highway. She began wondering where the man currently was.

Clara took 40 minutes to get to Donford City via the highway. Since she didn't know where the man was, she decided to wait for him outside City Hall. Things that were meant to happen would definitely happen.

As long as Clara waited at the entrance of City Hall, she'd be able to see the tall man she was destined to marry.

An hour later, Clara parked her car outside City Hall, which was located in the eastern district of Donford City. Instead of getting out of the car, she sat behind the wheel and watched the couples who visited the location to get their marriages legalized.

Since the courthouse was located next to the City Hall, a few couples were there to file for a divorce.

Clara found it interesting that people who weren't officially together wanted to be bound for life, while those who were bound for life wanted to be separated once and for all.

At that moment, a black car stopped next to her car. The driver, William Hefner, turned to speak with the person sitting in the backseat.

Clara noticed the man in the backseat winding down the window, revealing an extremely handsome face. He looked around his surroundings for a few moments.

When he sensed Clara's gaze on him, he turned to look at her. Clara had good vision and could tell the man's gaze was awfully cold and sharp.

He was clad in a black suit completed with a light blue tie. His demeanor was very cold.

What an intimidating man.

Clara could tell that the man wasn't one to be trifled around just by gazing at him through the car window. The suit he was wearing made her recall the vision she had. That was when she suspected that the man was the one she was meant to marry.

But Clara wasn't in a rush. She decided to observe the man to see if he really was her target.

A phone began ringing at that moment. Clara thought it was hers, so she pulled out her phone. It turned out that it wasn't her phone.

The man in the other car picked up the phone call. Only then did Clara find out that they used the same ringtone.

"Stop urging me, Grandma. I'm in front of City Hall right now. If anyone's willing to marry me, rest assured that I'll bring a granddaughter-in-law home for you. I will return to the company if no one plans to marry me in an hour. In return, you can't force me to get married anymore."

Bonnie Sullivan was so furious that she chewed her grandson out from the other end of the line. "Yohan, you don't even have a girlfriend! Why did you show up in front of the City Hall? Who on earth will marry you? Are you saying that your future wife will materialize in front of you all of a sudden?"

Chapter 3

"If you really don't want me forcing you to get married, then get your ass out there and start dating around! You're already 30 years old, yet you refuse to meet young women and dine out with them! If I don't urge you in any way, you'll be destined for a life of solitude!"

Yohan Morris remained impassive despite having gotten chewed out by Bonnie. He just huffed coldly in return.

"I'll wait for an hour. I will return to the company if no woman is willing to marry me in an hour. I'm extremely busy with work, Grandma. If you really want to force someone to get married, you should target the others in the family."

"You're the eldest son! If you refuse to get married, do you think I can convince the other idiots to do the same?" Bonnie screeched. "At least other young men are getting involved in the dating pool! You and your brothers are pure lazy at this point!"

Yohan moved his phone away from his ear. Then, he placed the phone on the seat next to his so that Bonnie could rant all she wanted without hurting his ear.

"Yohan, did you set your phone aside? You must think that I'm nagging you again, right? Fine! One hour it is! I'll let Holly know about your location so she can convince Mandy to marry you right now!"

After that, Bonnie hung up on Yohan angrily.

Holly Harris was Bonnie's old friend. Both the Morris and the Smith families shared a good relationship. Mandy Smith and Yohan were childhood friends who grew up together. Both families wanted to matchmake them. Unfortunately for them, Yohan and Mandy merely treated each other as siblings.

Yohan picked up his phone and slid it back into his pocket nonchalantly. Once Mandy heard Holly's request, she'd flee from the house faster than a leopard, that was for sure. She'd never go to the City Hall.

His cold gaze rested on Clara's face once again. Clara wound down the window and stuck her head out. Just like that, they made eye contact with each other.

Both of them just stared at each other. Yohan was cold and impassive, but Clara looked quite interested in him.

She didn't wind down her window earlier, so she didn't overhear the conversation between Yohan and Bonnie. The reason why she stared at Yohan was because she found him extremely good-looking. In fact, he had to be the most handsome man she had ever seen in her entire life.

William turned to look at Yohan and then at Clara, who was staring at Yohan.

Yohan had a cold and aloof personality. He had a tendency to cast sharp and icy looks at other people. Typically, no one had the courage to make eye contact with him.

To think that the female stranger dared to stare at Yohan!

William felt that Clara was very impressive.

A female ghost happened to stop before Yohan's car. When she noticed Yohan, she tried to get into his car. But the moment she floated to the backseat and tried to sit across from Yohan, she suddenly propelled herself toward Clara's car.

Clara witnessed the scene unfold before her eyes.

The female ghost must be frightened, for she crouched down immediately and dared not look at Yohan anymore. After that, she circled around Clara's car and stopped next to the front passenger seat.

Clara looked away before leaning over to open the car door for the ghost. Surprised, the ghost stared at Clara, who smiled at her.

"Get in. I can see you."

The ghost quickly got into the car.

Once Clara closed the door, she wound up the window at the same time. She said to the ghost softly, "Stop wasting your time. That man can never be your husband in the afterlife. If you really want a husband, you should switch targets.

"That man's life energy is exceedingly strong. If you get close to him, you'll get hurt by his energy."

The female ghost hung her head low while sounding quite remorseful. "He's so handsome. I fell in love with him at first sight, so I wanted to get close to him. But I didn't expect to be repelled away from him."

Clara nodded. "That's why I said he could hurt you."

"What a shame. He's so handsome, and yet he can't become my husband," the ghost lamented.

"Even romance for the dead is already predetermined by God. You two aren't meant for each other. Relationships can never be forced," Clara advised.

The female ghost seemed to be in deep thought. A moment later, she said, "Thank you for your advice. I'm fine now."

"Then you should leave now. I'll open the door for you."

Clara leaned over to open the door again to let the ghost out of the car. When Yohan witnessed her actions, he thought she was just doing that to attract his attention.

After seeing the ghost off, Clara wound down the car window again and continued staring at Yohan. After all, she had never seen a man as handsome as him.

Although Yohan was cold and aloof, Clara didn't mind admiring him at all.

Yohan's phone began ringing again. It was another phone call from Bonnie. Only Bonnie had the guts to spam Yohan with calls.

He answered the call, but he didn't say anything.

"Yohan, are you really waiting at the City Hall's entrance?"

"I never joke around, Grandma."

"The City Hall is a place for people to legalize their marriages. Similarly, the courthouse next to it deals with divorces! Are you planning on marrying a freshly divorced woman?" Bonnie sounded mad.

"It doesn't matter if they are divorced or single—as long as a woman is willing to marry me, I'll take her as my wife."

Bonnie was pissed, to say the least. "You're trying to give me a heart attack, right?"

"I've always wished you could lead an extremely long life, Grandma."

"Are you in your car right now?"

Yohan opted not to answer that question. It was his way of saying "yes".

"How can you get yourself a wife if you stay in your car? Get out of the car right now! In fact, you should stick a note that says 'Who wants to marry me?' on yourself! You don't need an hour! In ten minutes, you'll be able to get yourself a wife!"

Yohan's face darkened. "I'm going to wait inside my car. If a woman is willing to get married to me even under these circumstances, then I shall marry her."

He didn't get out of the car, so no one knew of his presence. How could anyone possibly marry him without knowing that he existed?

This was just a method Yohan deployed to counter Bonnie's excessive actions of urging and forcing him to get married.

Enraged, Bonnie hung up on Yohan again. A victorious glint appeared in Yohan's eyes.

Bonnie might be shrewd, but he was even more shrewd than her. No matter how difficult she was, Yohan always had tricks up his sleeve to fend her off.

This time, Clara overheard the phone conversation. She grabbed her handbag and got out of the car immediately. In just a few steps, she stood in front of Yohan's car window.

Having sensed that someone was close, Yohan turned to look at Clara. When he realized that it was the woman who had been staring at him with great interest, his gaze turned icy.

"What is it?" he asked coldly.

"Are you waiting for God to materialize a wife for you?"

Yohan didn't say anything.

Clara just smiled. "What a coincidence! I'm waiting for God to materialize a husband for me too! I'm willing to marry you. I even brought my identification documents. Do you want to get married now?"

After observing Yohan for ten minutes, Clara was very sure that he was her marriage target.

Both Yohan and William went silent. William, in particular, was shocked by how bold Clara was. To think she wanted to marry a man as intimidating as Yohan!

A moment later, Yohan got out of the car. He had a tall and well-built physique, so when he stood in front of Clara, his stance was so intimidating that she had to back away from him.

"Do you know what you're talking about?" he questioned.

Clara raised her head to look at Yohan. He was a head taller than her. She stood at five feet and four inches tall, yet he was able to make her seem petite.

"Sir, I'm highly aware of what I'm doing right now. I overheard what you said just now. You said you'd marry any woman who's willing to marry you while you're waiting in your car. I wonder if you're the type to hold your end of the bargain."

Yohan stared at Clara for two long minutes. Finally, he replied icily, "I'm a man of my word."

Clara smiled. "Great! Let's go get our marriage legalized."

Yohan was speechless for a moment. "Do you even know who I am?"

Chapter 4

Clara continued smiling. "I don't. But once I receive my marriage license, I'll know who you are. You are… my man!"

Yohan clamped up after that. He could tell that Clara didn't love him at all. Just 20 minutes ago, they were still strangers who didn't know the other existed.

Just how bold was she to get into a whirlwind marriage with him?

Clara was a looker, not to mention she could logically debate with him. By right, she should be a sane woman. Why would she get into a whirlwind marriage with a stranger?

Could it be that her family was also urging her to get married? Did she hatch the same idea by waiting outside the City Hall just like him?

"Did you bring your identification documents?" Clara asked.

Yohan pursed his lips before saying, "Yes."

He meant to piss Bonnie off, and he was the type who made all sorts of preparations. That was why he brought his documents along.

"Then… let's get married?"

Yohan fell silent again. He had claimed that he'd like to see if anyone was willing to marry him despite staying in the car.

Now, there was a woman who was willing to get married to him without him stepping out of the car. Plus, he was the type who always kept his word.

More importantly, Bonnie wouldn't urge him anymore once he got married. He'd get all the peace and quiet in the world.

A few minutes later, Yohan made up his mind.

Clara extended a hand to Yohan. He didn't want to hold her hand, so he turned on his heel and headed toward the City Hall.

A smile played on Clara's lips as she followed him into the building. Her supernatural foresight was never wrong.

See? She found the man she'd be marrying.

Both of them entered the City Hall. There weren't many couples waiting at the marriage registration counter. Through the window in the City Hall, Yohan could see a long line forming at the courthouse. Those were the people waiting to get divorced.

Yohan glanced at the line, thinking he and Clara would join the line soon enough.

He walked over to the registration counter. When the staff member noticed that a handsome man was about to get married, she was more than happy to offer her services. First things first, she congratulated Clara and Yohan.

Yohan's expression was stern. He didn't even bother looking at Clara as he pulled out his documents. Then, he fished out his wallet and retrieved his ID before placing everything on the counter.

Clara sat next to him. She passed out her documents as well.

In an instant, the staff member realized that something was off. Clara and Yohan were here to get married, and yet they never interacted with each other. Heck, Yohan didn't even bother looking at Clara at all.

"Are you two here to get married out of your own will?" the staff member asked out of concern.

Yohan pursed his lips together firmly. Clearly, he wouldn't answer the staff member's ridiculous question. No one could force him to get married at the City Hall unless it was out of his own volition.

Clara just smiled. "We're doing this out of our own will."

The staff member snuck another glance at Yohan. This time, Yohan met her eyes coldly. His icy voice was laced with a hint of impatience.

"Hurry up. I'm a busy man, and I don't have time to waste," he urged.

The staff member was momentarily speechless. Since both parties decided to get married out of their own will, she'd follow the usual procedures.

The procedures were completed in half an hour. Yohan and Clara were presented with marriage licenses of their own.

Once they walked out of the City Hall, the staff member helped them take photos on their respective phones to commemorate the moment. Clara looked at the photo on her phone, noting how she smiled naturally at the camera. That was because she knew that she'd be marrying a stranger today.

Her new husband, on the other hand, behaved rigidly. He stood before the City Hall as though he was a soldier. If it wasn't for the fact that he was breathing, Clara would've thought she was taking photos with a mannequin.

Soon, Clara stuffed the marriage license into her handbag.

As the newlyweds walked, they didn't bother speaking with each other. Yohan took the lead while Clara trailed from behind.

After leaving the City Hall, they headed toward their own cars. Clara got into her car and started the engine before driving away.

William turned to look at Yohan. He mustered all the courage he had before asking, "Mr. Morris, did you really marry that woman?"

"Yes."

William fell silent at the answer. He never expected Yohan to get into a whirlwind marriage.

"I'm a man of my word. I never expected to be able to marry someone while waiting in my car. Then again, it's just a marriage. I can always file for a divorce."

Yohan didn't mind becoming a divorcee.

He never wanted to get married, but Bonnie kept urging him to. She'd set up hundreds of blind dates for him just so he could get married, and she kept introducing characters of all kinds to him.

Did she seriously think that he'd accept just about anyone?

"Then… who exactly is Mrs. Morris, sir? Which esteemed family is she from?"

That way, William and the rest of the household staff could properly greet Clara's family if they decided to visit the Morris family.

A moment of silence later, Yohan replied, "I don't know. Don't ask such questions. Start the car."

Clara's full name was printed on the marriage license, but Yohan never bothered looking at it. For now, he didn't know his new wife's name.

William dared not ask any questions after that. He started the car immediately.

At the same time, he secretly lamented that Yohan was the only man in the world who didn't know his wife's name despite having married her.

Upon returning to Morris Corporation, Yohan had just walked into the building when he saw his grandmother.

Bonnie was 80 years old this year. She took great care of herself and was in great health, so she looked like a woman in her 60s. She was clad in a classy attire and carried herself elegantly, making her seem friendly and approachable. Due to her old age, her vision had deteriorated, forcing her to constantly wear a pair of gold-rimmed reading glasses.

When Yohan spotted Bonnie, he paused in his tracks for a moment. Then, he approached her.

"Why are you here, Grandma?"

"I'm here to see if you've managed to procure a granddaughter-in-law for me."

Yohan's expression remained stony as he reached out to support Bonnie. But Bonnie slapped his hand away before turning to walk into the lobby.

Yohan just followed Bonnie, his expression still neutral.

Minutes later, both of them walked into the CEO's office, which was located on the top floor of Morris Corporation.

Yohan personally poured Bonnie a glass of water. After placing it before her, he sat across from her and said, "Have some water, Grandma."

"You're only offering me water? Don't you have any snacks?"

Yohan gazed at Bonnie and replied, "You know I don't like desserts, Grandma. There won't be any snacks or junk food in this office."

Bonnie mumbled, "If you ever fall in love with a woman with a sweet tooth, you'll end up just like your grandfather."

Since Bonnie's husband no longer ran the company, the office pantry was no longer stocked with her favorite snacks and desserts.

"Tell me, Yohan. What are the requirements you have for your wife? As long as you tell me those requirements, I'll travel to every inch of this world just to find the perfect woman for you."

Yohan opted not to answer Bonnie. Instead, he fished out his marriage license and looked at it. His wife's name was Clara Fowler. He remembered her to be a pretty woman with animated eyes and waist-length locks.

After that, Yohan slid the marriage license and his phone, which showed the City Hall's photo, to Bonnie.

The moment Bonnie recognized the items, she was surprised. She quickly picked up the marriage license and started going through it properly. Then, she studied the photo on the phone.

A few minutes later, she asked Yohan, "This is real, right? You didn't get someone to forge the marriage license for you, did you?"

"If you don't believe me, you can check the records in the City Hall. If I wanted to forge the license, I wouldn't have waited till today. Besides, I have a photo to prove that I'm married."

That meant the marriage license was the real deal!

Holy shit! That insolent brat did get married!

"Did you get out of the car, Yohan?"

Bonnie distinctly remembered Yohan saying he'd stay in the car for one hour. How could he get himself a wife without getting out of the car?

Chapter 5

Yohan's expression was starting to crumble. He was silent for a moment before shaking his head. "No."

"Then…" Bonnie looked like she was ready to hear some gossip being spilled. She wanted to know how on earth did her new granddaughter-in-law manage to get into Yohan's car and convince him to marry her.

"She overheard our phone conversation. Then… things progressed to this point."

Bonnie was stunned, to say the least. She didn't think things would turn out like that.

A while later, she managed to snap out of her stupor. She asked Yohan, "And you actually went along with it?"

Yohan's expression darkened even more. He didn't want to go along with the flow, but Clara had heard everything he said to Bonnie over the phone. She even asked him if he was a man of his word. Of course, he had to make it clear that he always kept his end of the bargain.

After that, Clara told him to register their marriage in a delighted tone. She said something about waiting for God to materialize a husband for her as well.

Yohan was currently plagued by immense regret. To think that he, Yohan Morris, would get manipulated into marrying a woman!

"Grandma, I'm a man of my word."

Bonnie laughed heartily at Yohan's words. She was laughing so hard that she no longer cared about her appearance.

"This is absolutely hilarious! I can't believe this actually happened to you, Yohan! This is what you get for refusing to go on blind dates and insisting on fighting with me!

"You must be happy now, right? After all, you practically skipped all the way to the marriage part! You even have your own marriage license! To think that you were still a single, unwanted man without a girlfriend this morning!"

Yohan glared at Bonnie sullenly. Him being a man of his word was the first reason. The second reason was that he wanted to make things difficult for Bonnie.

Thanks to his stubbornness, he was officially married.

"Where's my granddaughter-in-law? Why didn't she come here with you after the registration?"

Once Bonnie calmed down, she instantly developed a strong interest in Clara.

Yohan replied curtly, "She left after she got the marriage license."

"She didn't ask about your family or your address?"

"Nope." Yohan recalled Clara's attitude. It seemed like she was waiting outside the City Hall. As long as she could get her hands on a marriage license, she could get married to practically anyone.

That thought frustrated Yohan.

"Where is her address, then?" Bonnie asked.

"I don't know."

"Talk about an actual whirlwind marriage…"

Bonnie stared at Clara's photo on Yohan's phone for a moment. "Then again, my granddaughter-in-law's looks are on par with yours. I see a glint in her animated eyes. Overall, she gives off a comfortable feeling.

"Clara Fowler… This is a good name as well. It makes her seem elegant and well-educated. It's good that we know her name. I can launch an investigation on her right now. Wait, no. I can't be the one doing that—you'll have to be the one doing that. She's your wife; you should be the one getting to know her."

Bonnie wanted to order her connections to investigate Clara, but she quickly dispelled that thought. She'd prefer it if Yohan was the one doing the investigating instead.

After all, it would be inappropriate for a husband to not know anything about his wife.

"There's no need for that. We'll be filing for a divorce sooner or later."

Yohan retrieved the marriage license and the phone from Bonnie's hands before stuffing them into his pockets. Then, he returned to his desk.

"You must be satisfied now, right? There's no need to keep urging me to get married anymore. You can now switch targets."

"Don't you dare file for a divorce! You aren't allowed to do that unless you've been married for one full year!"

Bonnie wanted to give Yohan one year to get to know Clara well. If romantic sparks were to fly between them, their marriage would last for a long time. But if they couldn't click at all, they could file for a divorce once the one year was up. That way, their youth wouldn't be wasted on each other.

"When are you going to announce your marriage?"

"What's there to announce? Do you want the mass media to constantly stalk her?"

As the husband, all Yohan knew about his wife was the fact that her name was Clara Fowler. He didn't know anything else about her. Heck, he didn't have her contact number.

Again, what was there to announce?

Bonnie smiled. "So, you're saying that you want your marriage to stay a secret, yes? Do whatever you want, then. Although you two got to know each other via a whirlwind marriage, this is still a work of fate. Only fated people are destined to meet each other again. I'd like to see how long you can keep your marriage a secret."

She picked up her glass and took two sips from it. After setting it down, she rose to her feet.

"You should get on with your work. I'm leaving now."

Yohan didn't even raise his head. "Goodbye, Grandma."

It was almost noon by then. Yohan focused on his work after that. Soon, it was time for lunch.

His home was located 20 minutes away from the company. Most of the time, he never returned home for meals. Instead, he'd drive to Sunville Hotel, which was located five minutes away from the company if he were to travel there by car.

Sunville Hotel was one of Morris Corporation's businesses. It was also one of the most luxurious hotels in Donford City.

William, as well as four professional bodyguards were waiting for him in the lobby. Upon noticing Yohan walking out of the CEO's exclusive elevator, William approached him immediately.

Yohan knew that William had something to say. He glanced at William without stopping in his tracks.

William walked next to him while murmuring, "Sir, Mrs. Morris is here. She's waiting for you at the entrance."

Yohan halted in his tracks immediately. He frowned as he tilted his head to look at William. His gaze was cold and deep as usual.

William felt chills running down his spine. He wasn't the one who summoned Clara here. Why was Yohan staring at him like that?

God, he was so scared that he had cold sweat forming on his back!

He was the only one who got to see Clara back when Clara and Yohan got married. Not even Yohan's personal bodyguards knew of Clara's existence. That was why he had to wait in the lobby just to inform Yohan of Clara's arrival.

"What is she doing here?" Yohan asked coldly. "How did she find out I'm here?"

He and Clara never asked each other any questions related to each other. How on earth did Clara find her way here?

William shook his head. "I don't know. Mrs. Morris is still driving the same car we saw this morning. The car is parked outside the entrance. The moment she got out of the car, she leaned against the hood with her hands in her pockets. She just kept staring at the company while looking very relaxed. I think… she's waiting for you, sir."

Yohan frowned deeply. Suddenly, he was starting to regret his decision.

He regretted marrying a stranger so impulsively. After all, he didn't know anything about her.

Yohan was used to having everything under his control. He didn't like this feeling of helplessness at all.

He thought for a few moments before giving his orders to William. "Drive away from the company later. Just ignore her."

Yohan didn't want everyone to find out that the woman waiting for him outside the company was his wife.

William didn't know what to say.

Yohan just shot William a glare.

Startled, William quickly replied respectfully, "Got it, Mr. Morris."

After that, Yohan strode out of the company. His bodyguards followed suit. William wiped his brow before following them hastily.

It was true that Clara was waiting outside Morris Corporation. But she wasn't waiting for Yohan.

The truth was, she didn't even know that Yohan was the CEO of Morris Corporation. On the way home, she had received a phone call from Evelyn.

Evelyn found out from Lilia that Clara was in the city for the day. So, she called Clara and invited her out to lunch.

Coincidentally, Evelyn was an employee of Morris Corporation. This was the reason why Clara showed up at the company's entrance.
